It just won't be the same after Washington, Jefferson, and Roosevelt are removed...and how about Stone Mountain, I guess that whole mountain ought to be flattened, it was once owned by KKK members ya' know.

Monticello has got to go, ol' Tom had a black girlfriend(slave), yup...Tom had slaves. This bit of history could have both left and right clamoring for it's demolition.

How about the Crazy Horse memorial, not even done yet but we might have to blow it up too, ya' see, he was a hero to some and a terrorist to others...can't have that can we.

Save them all I say, all the statues too, it's a part of our history.

But nope, we're on our way to change history, erase and replace, until it is snow white(oops, sorry if I offended anyone), I meant squeaky clean.
 
Ya know. I'm kinda okay with it. I'm sick and tired of hearing about all of the "oppression" that is currently happening as a result of slavery in the past. Once all evidence of the past has been erased, we can simply say "What you talkin' about Willis?" whenever anyone mentions slavery in the past. It never happened, so what's your beef?

Do you really think that would be the end of their complaining? It would only embolden them to go further. Who knows maybe we will all have to take DNA tests and they will sort out our familial history's and punish us for the sins of our ancestors.

My whole family are born and raised Virginians. My father, his father, and his father before him were named after Lee. I have kin buried at Petersburg. I am ashamed of my Virginia as she stands today.

Lee was born and raised in VA, he detested slavery and never owned a slave till his wife's father left him his after his death. He freed those slaves and allowed them to live at Arlington FREE. When he resigned his Commision in the US Army he made it very clear he would not support the Confederacy. He refused to lead the US Army, he came home to fight for "His mother, Virginia"

I'm sorry for those that died, the two troopers were doing their job. The young lady, who the troopers were there to protect.

Removing the monuments will do nothing but cause more hatred and devision. When they decide to remove them from Monument Ave in Richmond....ALL should be removed and I do mean ALL of them! Author Ash and the rest.

I am very ashamed of my Virginia
 
This is probably suited for the political / anything goes forum, but seeing as a splintered few of the US population is getting the go-ahead from some mayors/Governors, to remove monuments that presumably represent or US History of slavery, shouldn't the "Democrat Party" be removed from the ballot? After all, they are the party of Segregation, Jim Crow Laws, the KKK, Internment Camps, & filibustering the Civil Rights Act in 1964. The record holding filibuster at that time, was held by none other than Senator Robert Byrd.

If we're going to eliminate all the bad things in our history, removing and/or renaming DNC party would be a good start.
 
But you forgot. There was one morning when all of the Republicans denounced every thing they stood for all at the same time and then they reported to work the next day as Democrats. And miraculously enough, when all of the Democrats reported to work that day and saw that the Republicans had stolen their offices, they also decided to denounce everything that they believed in and said to hell with it, and moved into the Republicans' empty offices.

That's how the Republicans ended up with all of the KKK members like Robert Byrd... Errr... sorta.
 
I can hear it now, Trump made her do it. Even tho Trump wasn't even in the office back then.

She blamed all of her actions on her parents...couldn't just be her own doing, it had to be someone else's fault

Indeed - I forgot about that part of history. I also remember, now that you have enlightened me, Historians recently discovered letters written by Abraham Lincoln secretly stating that he was actually a Democrat.
 
Look further into Lincon folks, you might be surprised. Things like he was a well to do attorney, not the so called "man of the people" as the press made him out to be before his election.

He was a good man, elected in a very tough time. When he freed the slaves after Gettesburg he only freed those in the Southern States, even tho there were more slaves in the Northern states per capita than in all the Southern states. He was afraid of losing the Northern manufacturing vote. Kinda reminds me of what is going on right now which all those politicians sideline with the BLM groups. So you see, history can and does repeat itself to those that chose to forget.

If you want to learn more and you like to read may I suggest the late Shelby Foote. He never choose a side in his writings like many other writers did when it came to the war

Jeez ol' timer, you need to catch up with the times. Bruce can be a lady if he wants and Rachel can be black if she wants... genetics, white skin, and weenies ain't got nothin' to do with it.

Anyway, back to the monuments, when they drop the Washington Monument it'll be awesome to watch, timmmberrrrrrrr.

I wonder what will be built with the re-purposed material from the White House....black folks worked on it you know. Personally, I'd bet they'd be po'd if they knew that beautiful building they worked on was demolished, get this.....because they worked on it. I doubt it would make sense to any of them.

Wow! I really misread that report in the newspaper.
 
Friend of mine asked me this today.

He hasn't seen anyone throwing away or destroying their 10's 20's 50's or 100 dollar bills yet. They all have slave owners on them.

He is a diehard waterman and is willing to recycle them for those that are offended
