I replaced the thermostats on my water heater last year and everything has been fine until now.
The high limit trips and will not stay in for more than a minute.
Of course it is the start of our vacation which we spend on the boat!
Any ideas what could be the problem and what could happen if I by-passed it?
TIA

On closer inspection I found one of the plugs on the second thermostat is burnt. New set ordered. One has to work with a mirror to see the connections! PITA!!

You could bypass it but you better remember to shut it off when it gets to temp. Probably a bad idea. Glad you go it sorted out now.

It may not be the thermostat that's the root cause. You may have a heater element in your future. Mine had burned through the crimps on the hot wire. They aren't expensive, or hard to replace, except for typical PITA boat access.

I do have a spare on hand. We'll see how this pans out. The heater only has 3 seasons on it, so I can't see why the element would be bad. (oh, yeah, it is a boat!)
