340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Waterlifts and intrusion??? I'm currently looking at an 2000 340 and a 2003 340. One has 7.4 380 h.p. and the other 8.1s. How do I check for this as I am not familiar with this problem? Anything else I should be looking at besides deck moisture??? Thanks

here is a pic of my starboard engine and genny....you can see the water lift muffler that the engine exhaust tubes are connected to....

I have a friend with a '06 340. He thinks the stainless steel flapper on his main engine exhausts are in upside down. Rather than remain closed when the engines are not running they are always open. If they were rotated 180 degrees the would remain closed until the water flow would open them. For those of you with the '03 and newer 340s, are your flappers in "upside down"? If so why did Sea Ray do this??? Thanks

Having rebuilt a genny, then bought a new genny, used the new one for less than 70 hours, only to hydrolock it (again)... I neither want or need a genny... I am probably the exception to the rule. My problems with gennys are directly related to my lack of use or need for a genny... If you have one, use it, or suffer my fate...

BTW, I am still wondering if any one with an '03-'06 340 can me how their SS flappers are installed on side hull exhausts...

OK I'll bite..... how did you hydrolock a generator? Hydrolock to me is water through the air intake.

I did it two different ways... The first time I put a fresh water hose connection between the RW inlet and the strainer... I turned the water bib, walked to the dock, and started the Generator... The water went past the pump and backed up from the exhaust into the cylinders... I started the generator and bent a connecting rod... The second time, I am not totally sure what happened... Either I screwed up the winterization, or I ran the started too long and the water back up from the exhaust into the cylinders...

Ouch. That's one heck of a learning curve. This just reminded me that I need to find the owners manual for the generator in my boat.

Does anyone know the prop nut size on a 2001 340DA with 8.1S and V-drives? I have searched and searched and cannot find this info. I may have a loose prop on the port side and need to get in the water at the sand bar and check it this weekend before I decide to pull the boat out of the water.

new boat owner, can anyone send me a PM, with a phone number, as i have photos, i can NOT post. i can text you them, Not sure what we are getting, it is a 2001 340 da, with 8.1H, after reading almost all the threads in this section over the last few weeks, im not sure if it has the closed cooling? or old style Log type, exhaust? and how much dismantling of the gen set 4.5Kw, do they do when they winterize? do the take the Elbo off? the part that mounts to the back wall of the boat? to flush? newbie needing help, I know photos help, i have many, just cant post. motors looks like the 03' models, not the HO, versions. one engine has more hours on the meter, which i read could be from a new ECM? like 140hrs more, Im ordering a 3 axle gooseneck trailer. and where can i order the best Canvas Camper Back enclosure, ive googled it,, just can find one. big thanks , and many more photos to come.

Sorry to keep barging into this thread, 2001 8.1s horizon question for those with those motors, we found an 01 340 with them.

I know of he aluminum manifold debacle. This boat is fresh water only its whole life.

Did the 01 variant of the 8.1s horizon have aluminum manifolds from the beginning?

Is the horizon motor a half fresh system with the manifolds and risers raw water cooled? Or are the manis fwc?

welcome to CSR and good luck with the 'new' boat.....I have the same boat but with the small block 6.2 engines....if you have closed cooling you will have heat exchangers on front of the engines...this is a long cylindrical tube that is about 4" in diameter and a couple feet long...it will have water lines plumbed into it.....I don't have to winterize my boat so can't answer the question about the genny....there could have been a ECM swap that would account for the difference in hours between the two engines....what do the hours on the dash gauges read?.....the full camper canvas was not an option in 2001 for your boat....you will have to have that made by a local canvas shop.....expect a cost of several thousand $$ for that.....

if you sponsor the CSR site with a yearly donation you will be able to post pics....

cliff, thanks for the info, i was wondering if someone could post pics for me via PM/text, i'm not so computer savvy. lol, i'm assuming the internal parts of the 8.1s are closed cooled as they have the coolant resouvior.

hrs are 425 and 279 i believe

will a 2002 camper top fit the 01? or 99-02 there is no camper canvas top.

cliff, your photo, has your boat with a camper back, custom made?

there are two types of closed cooling systems....full and partial.....the full system cools the exhaust components and the engine where the half system just cools the engine...but both systems cool at least the engine.....yes, a top will fit all of these boats from 1999 - early 2003....yes, the camper back I have was custom made locally.....I chose to use a one piece long bimini over the cockpit instead of the two piece.....if you chose to leave the small rear bimini attached to the radar arch the second camper bimini will attach to the rear bimini with zippers....

They might have changed the one Tach with the hr meter. You would have to get a download from ECM to get actual hours.

thanks MASTERFAB, for taking my call!!! love your restoration Blog

thanks Cliff also!!
