Official 330 Sundancer Thread

The week was great! However, second last day coming out of Little Current the newly repaired engine overheated. Idled back to Killarney to have a look, and its looking like it popped the new head gaskets. We limped home all the way down the bay at 7 knots, took 15 hours. At least the weather was nice.

Wasn't the head gasket. The fuel/water pump combo pooped the bed. It was pumping water into the carb through the overflow.

We have a 95 330. The frig in the cabin still works but is getting so bad that you almost have to defrost every two weeks. Been thinking about replacing this winter. Will make a good winter project. A couple questions I have are what do you guys recommend as a replacement? How bad was it to get the old frig out? I helped a buddy on a 340 and we had to about take the door apart. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Assuming the search works now on this site, you will find posts that outline it. There are good replacements. Vitrifigo and Nova Kool and others. I replaced mine with a Nova Kool 5810 and could not be more pleased. My Norcold was dead so I took it apart to get it out the cabin door. The Nova Kool just fit through the door. I mean with like 1/8 inch on each side.

Getting it to fit in place where the Norcold was required cutting the opening at the top by about 5/8 in to get it to fit. The back of the hole opening on the boat has a stringer at the back that gets in the way too. But you can bend in the metal shielding on the fridge in that area to get clearance. The compressor is mounted at the top on these fridges and there is just insulation under the lower corner. With some trial and error, it fits nicely. Its also 5.8 cu ft, compared to 3 cu ft in the Norcold. Its quieter, uses less power and has an LED interior light.

Thanks Creekwood. I did do a search last night and didn't find much at first. But finally figured what to search for and found some stuff. Sounds like the Nova Kool 5810 is what I will be doing. I like the size of the frig. Ives seen some pics and it really looks nice. One question I would have, is that frig. a frost free frig? Or are they just like the old one? I know my problem with mine is that the frig is original. Seals don't seal up well. That's where all my frost is coming from on the freezer. Last weekend it was a solid block of ice. So we had to go thru the exercise again. I'm getting real tired of that. I don't relish spending that much for a frig but it is what it is. They are proud of them. Would be interested in a good place to buy that frig?

Yep your year would have the combo. They are quite a salty part these days we'll over $1000 for the combo. Got both replaced on my 330 last season just under 3000 but the boat ran perfect!
Just an FYI- I rebuilt each of my pumps with bearings/lip seals sourced locally and brand new fuel pumps from amazon for about $150 for the pair.

No such thing as frost free in a marine fridge of this size. If the seals are good, no moist air gets inside and minimal frost, but eventually the freezer will frost up. Mine does not frost up much at all though.

I kind of figured that but had to ask. Well an upgrade to a new frig can't be a bad investment.

Does anyone know how to get the microwave out of my 330? It's of the 1992 generation. I guess 25 years is the service life lol.
Also was taking some measurements and darn is that thing low profile compared to what's for sale at your local best buy type store. Anyone have a good replacement idea? I am seeing about 18inches wide and about 9 inches high. No clue on depth since I'm still figuring out how to get the darn thing out. Thanks in advance

If your layout is similar to mine there is a tambor door cabinet below the microwave. When I removed mine it was through this cabinet. There were screws going up into a board that I removed. I was then able to remove the microwave, attached to this board. You can then separate the board from the microwave to facilitate the replacement. Hope this helps.

finally finished replacing the gauge panel and gauges. I used the repro panel from FP and two faria Chesapeake kits from ebay for $200 each shipped. only thing is now I have two speedometers im trying to get rid of. I was lucky to find a second hand synchronizer with white face and matching ring. the job sucked to say the least especially with sweat dripping from your brow. I attached a signal wire to the wrong post mistakenly on the stbd tach and had a no-start situation. after the second day of scratching my head and trouble shooting, I finally corrected it today ! I felt like doing a jig!. all in all , I think it was worth the trouble. looks and acts so much nicer , feels like a much newer boat. now onto the switch panel. I think my plan of attack is disconnecting each one at a time and connecting back to the wiring to it , then install in reverse.

Yup, one at a time. Been there, done that, have the tee shirt. You will find that the space is an issue as you move across because you have two panels at play. Its awkward because the wires are short, but it is feasible. Great sense of accomplishment when it is done though.

I second creekwood on the one at a time. I cut all the wire ties to gain a bit more slack in the wiring to gain more working room

A pair of needle nose pliers will help getting the slide on connectors off the switch terminals. Also saves the fingers to use it to push them back on.

You want to grasp the top and bottom of the switch and compress the little plastic tabs and wiggle the switch through the panel. Half way through it becomes a balancing act to keep both panels balanced on one another as you transfer the switch.

Take your time and it is OK. I had a similar experience on the guages. I missed tightening two posts one on the voltmeter and one in the tach and got an intermittent shut down issue on the port engine. I chased that for weeks! Discovered it when the engine was running I tapped the tach to get the needle down and the engine cut out. Did it again same thing. I shook my head pulled the panel out and sure enough the connection was loose. Tighened it and no issues!

looks great. I did my switch panel in the beginning of the season. I found it local. cant find the gauge panel and flounde wont sell it separate.

the previous owner had just installed a 4208 gpsmap with radar overlay. its a nice unit , big screen and intuitive features and looks good in the 330 console. he had left me one of the upgraded G2 chart cards which has the photo land features etc. personally I think that is a little gimmicky, as I don't need to see what color mailboxes are in the surrounding neighborhoods, but the built in charting is more in line with the standard nautical charts and is nicely detailed. haven't used the radar overlay feature yet , but im sure it can come in handy.

Another route is to use a 10 inch or larger tablet with Navionics software. Get a tablet mount off eBay for 15-20 bucks. Have an older radar and chartplotter which I don't use Much Anymore the tablet is very fast portable and you can move the screen in any position you want with the mount as to reduce glare. Navionics software is inexpensive and works great. You're always getting updates and only is about $60 to start out with for US and Canada. Navionics also has autorouting right now which is a great feature. In addition to everything else you can use your tablet for music email whatever you would like to do all in one unit as you can on a phone.

what gps is everyone using? im thinking of upgrading to a garmin 840xs
I have a Garmin 3006c that came with my boat. It has the radar & depth sounded as well. I networked a smaller Garmin MFD with that one for redundancy & mounted that down to the left of the helm, below the 3006c. I am happy with the setup.

I installed a Simrad NSS8 in my 330. It was both touch and had a dial for zoom and buttons. I even liked the Navico base charts on it. I think something in the 8" range is about as large a unit width wise that you can fit in that space on the console. I know of one person that got a 4210 Garmin in there but I think it hung over the edge a little.

Take your time cutting it out as I found that a normal saw had an issue at the bottom right corner as that was a tight spot against the helm area.

Good luck, there are so many choice now. I like the new Raymarine line.
