The official '99-'04 260DA Sundancer thread

I need to replace the Clarion speakers in our '02 260. I can't figure out how to remove the grills. Any ideas? I see no screw covers and when I try to pry them off by hand, the don't give. I'm afraid to damage the grills.

If I'm remembering correctly, I think you turn them CCW a bit. But if you're replacing the speakers, it's highly unlikely that the old grills will fit the new speakers, so have at it any way you want.

Yes, an arch was option on this era 260DA.

Thanks, Dennis. That helps tremendously. I am replacing the Clarion speakers with Sony's that drop into the 5" hole.

Hi All,

I have been reading this thread for a few years and I want to thank everyone here who has participated. I have done so many of the repairs recommended here that your experiences have been invaluable. Fixed the port window leaks, caulked the leak between the floor and the wall, replaced manifolds and risers, and countless other odds and ends.

I am hoping that some of the owners are still here. I am looking forward to more "repair" help. It does seem that many of these boats have the same issues.

Thanks

The thread has slowed down a bit. What repairs are you planning on?

I just removed all the seats and cushions and am having them re-upholstered. I am also replacing the speakers ( they were really rusty and had lousy sound). Last week I replaced some of the wood in the microwave cabinet that rotted away from the leaky port window.

Hello everyone,
Just signed up this morning and wanted to say HI. Happy to have found this site for reading about any lessons learned, tips and tricks.
Captain and I just bought a 2001 260 Sundancer!!! :smt038 I've never had a boat, he grew up with them. We started looking at boats one morning, I saw this one and begged the hubby for us to buy it. We've taken it out once for 27 hours, dieing to take it out again but darn work getting in the way. Lake Mead will be our go to spot for fun, fishing and the best relaxation.

Any Lake Mead cruisers out there?

Its a great boat and I am sure you will love it as I did when I had mine. Since it is new to you just make sure that maintenance is up to date and you should be good. There is lots of information here in this thread for you to learn from. Otherwise ask questions and I am sure someone will help you.

Hello All,
Just curious what others have done with their built in VHF radio area after they've replaced it.
My new vhf radio is mounted in the lower right hand area below the steering wheel.
Has anyone used a closure plate or something?
Thanks!
Mine is an 04 sundancer 260.

When I replaced my Raymarine 215 VHF radio on my 260 the new VHF was smaller and I had a filler plate manufactured and precision computer cut.
Since then I have a couple designed for direct fit for some popular radios. I have them available for sale if interested PM me.

You can see it pictured here (not a great picture but I am sure I could find a better one):

Trailer question
Would a tandem axle 9750 gawr 8000lbs carrying capacity trailer be enough for a 2000 260da.

Yes. I have a King 8600KBT Left over from the sale of my 260DA recently. It's here in WA though.

How did you remove the passenger lounge seat? Also, what did you buy for new speakers? Did you amplify them?

I've been wanting to enlarge the holes and use JL Audio 7.7's and find places to cut 2 more holes in the rear. I've also been thinking about adding a built in DVD player and permanently mounting a LED TV on the front mirror. If I do that I would like to use the 2 cabin speakers for the TV but would have to get a small amplifier for that too.

The passenger lounge seats were removed from below. A few were bolted in place from the bilge , however most were bolted from below in the aft cabin. I had to remove part of the headliner and the wall in the aft cabin The wall with the mirror on it. Reach up and you can find the bolts.

I added Fusuin 6 inch speakers. Fit the holes fine and just needed to drill new holes for the screws. I have been happy with them.

I recently had to replace the stand pipe that fits into the fresh water tank. Pump was running but no water was coming thru any spigot. Figured out it was the standpipe going directly into the tank that was broken and I made a new copper one.

Just checking before I dive headlong into another sticking door problem... has anyone tried to replace the *bottom* rollers on the door without pulling the windshield and console? It appears that we now have one set of rollers that has completely bit the dust. This leaves the door in a way that it can get a little crooked... which means it gets stuck in position that takes someone sticking their foot on the door to level it back out in order to get it open/closed.

I had an incident yesterday where I was alone on the boat (at dock) and got stuck in the cabin after closing the door. Had to climb out the bow hatch.

I am looking to do the same. Replace the trucks and rail. Anyone have any suggestions other than pulling the helm?

Thanks

looking for this?
Yup...
that's the one I found.. it's for the 2001, but I've poked around enough on my 2003 to see that it's really close to the same config... I'm not as eager to put bolts all the way through the door though.

I think I'm going to put this off as long as I possibly can ;)

Thanks for the video.

I agree, I am going to try and find a better way. I will let you know if I ever do.
