420 DA Thread

Jaybeaux, Just got to the boat, my swim platform door has no magnets on it, no wires, etc, just a latch?
Larry

Hi Larry, although you can see the magnets it does have the proximity switch controlled by a magnet . I had the same problem with my boat several years ago ( same boat as yours). It will show the switch on your wiring Diagram . Steve

Larry,

Tried to upload a picture, but evidently I'm not smart enough to do that. What I call the magnets are in the door (lower left corner when looking at the door closed, facing aft. It is in the door, so you don't see anything) and its mate which is just aft of the courtesy light, on the port gunwhale. Only a couple of inches above the deck. On my boat, that "magnet" is visible. Looks just like a round, silver dot. Probably not quite the size of a dime. There should be some wiring behind that magnet. I would look in the engine room, up above the generator to see if you can see the wiring for this "lockout". Maybe a connection is loose or needs cleaning. Good luck.

Jaybeaux and Steve,
Thanks for the help. Going back tonight and see if I can get this thing working. IMG_0696.JPG

Found it, still no luck. Going to try a new dash switch tomorrow.

Larry can you please tell me more about your sunshade. How does it attach? I'd like to see more pics!!

Larry, that interior is beautiful! Sea Ray should knock it off on one of their boats.

BTW, we have 'Sturm' on our dock in TX. Hadn't heard that name before.

Ahoy Malloy,
There is a second zipper that runs the full length of the rear of the Bimini. So you could have the rear enclosure on and wouldn't have to take the sun shade down if a rain storm pops up. Takes 3 minutes to put up or down. Two straps are attached to the rear of the sun shade of which I run over a boat hook stuck in the rod holder, the straps then attach to the rear cleat. What's nice is that the height of the sun shade can be adjusted from 8 foot head clearance down to the rear storage box depending on the angle of the sun. It also works well underway at cruise speed. It is the best addition I have made to the boat. The material is actually breathable, but blocks out 92% of the sun. Cost $700.00

Jaybeaux, Steve Franklin,
Finally got the hatch lift to work today! Ends up it was the dash hatch lift switch was bad. $13.00 for a new one from SeaRay and I'm back in business. Thanks for your help and information. I learned a lot more about the hatch system.

In the market for a 2002-2004 420DA. We really love the hard tops, but they are just out of our price range. What to do?

Can we add one later? Do we hold off until we find one/save up? Not sure we can wait much longer.

Thanks.

It's virtually impossible to add one. If you are set on a 420 then I say wait. We have an 01 460 and those may be in your price range with a hard top. Just a thought but definitely get what you want and don't buy something you will regret.

Finally got some pics of the aft and master tv and DVD replacements.

On the DVD, had to file just 1 side for about 2 minutes at an angle like I did the main, and then paint flat black, these fit perfect.

Have to grind some screws down in the master, support brackets hold the DVD shelf up and stick through the shelf, but overall everything works well.

May switch out mount in the master but I used an arm in the aft and an adjustable in the master. Spent no more than $15 on each mount. I prefer the arm.

Now need to figure out the sound bar. The TV sound sucks! I recommend a 24" TV, but find one that works with a sound bar first. I can't get the DVD player to play sound through a temporary bar I am using for testing. Tried using RCAs and that didn't work. DVD players only have an HDMI to TV connection, so I need the TV to transfer sound to the bar. Next time I'm tying an optical cable out of the TV.

The sound bars are what's driving me crazy. To find one that fits right (want to look as stock as possible) and has the correct connections is tough. The prices aren't cheap either. The sound bars will be the most expensive part of the whole thing.

When we run the central vac system on the boat, from the outside it sounds like a jet engine it's so loud !
Is there anyway to baffle the noise?
My Dock neighbor did not like it when my wife decided to vacuum at 8am
I did a search online and found some mufflers for central vac systems but must of them looked like they were going to be to big or long to fit behind the AC unit so I made my own muffler out of standard schedule 40 PVC. The noise coming out the vent on the side of the boat was cut back about 60%. I now have a happy Dock neighbor:thumbsup::thumbsup:
