Dinghy size for 2010 Sedan Bridge 520

Not to hijack too bad, but Alex do you have a platform lift or do you have a cradle lift (Freedom Lift or equivalent) that extends out past your platform?

We have a 2002 480SD and run with a 10' rib, not a console. The hydraulic platform lift will handle a bigger tender than our 10' er, but I like having the extra space on the platform to board the boat when we are docked sterned in.

What made you pick aluminum over fiberglass? I'm having this debate right now!

I was indifferent to the AL versus GL hull. I liked the Achilles narrow beam and the locker and they didn't make it in fiberglass.

Does anyone have a problem with their ratchet strap being too long? What I mean is that the distance from the bow's trailer hook down to my swim platform is about 12 inches and the straps I'm using have a fully ratcheted length of about 13 inches.

This is what I used, stainless steel with turnbuckle.

One in the front, two in the back.

Zodiac Yacht Line 340 on the back of a SR 47DB.

I use a stainless turnbuckle on the bow as well and ratchet straps on the stern.

JamesT , I have that problem the only way I've solved it was to attach the straps to an eye pad inside the dinghy and over the tubes down to the platform, criss crossed of course. I thought about the turnbuckle route but I've strapped many many heavy objects down to the deck of trucks running at emergency speeds and always crossed the lashings and have them pull in different directions.

Mine is SeaLIft cradle, not a full platform. It's a great setup for vessels of this size to minimize the weight at the stern. As you can imagine, the extended platform would add another 500lbs or more. IMO, this would have been crossing the limits with the tender I have, which is about 850lbs+.

Any chance that you have a picture of your strap configuration? You should see how many straps we're using on our dinghy to keep it secure. I have a feeling that we're overdoing it but we had the dinghy come loose last season so I'm a bit wary about how it's strapped down now.

Our mechanic added an additional eye pad and suggested that we mount the dinghy with the stern to the starboard side of our vessel. The change seems to have made a huge difference because now it's rock solid.

Our 450 DA has a 13'3" beam and is about 12'3" at the stern. We bought a 12' foot Apex console dinghy with a 30 HP engine. http://www.nwinflatables.com/A-12 TENDERLITE.htm

We do have overhang however we deal with it by utilizing inflatable fenders when going through the locks: http://www.aerefenders.com/ (we use the large ball style)

My preference would have been to get the 10' dinghy but my husband greatly preferred the larger dinghy so we just know that we have to make allowances to accommodate the larger dinghy.

Sandy, I don't do anything special I will take pics this weekend. I can say that Nylon straps DO stretch and cargo companies recommend polyester straps actually. our Nylon straps have stretched while underway. I will be switching to polyester/stainless ratchet straps soon.

2017-05-24 11.06.56.jpg We just bought an Achilles 310 HB-AX (Aluminum Hull) with a 15hp Tohatsu w/electric start. Custom SS Davit system purchased by P.O.

Hmm. I'm not sure whether our straps are nylon or poly. We are using the ratchet straps provided by the company we purchased our dinghy from. I'm also using supplemental straps that we purchased from West Marine however we added stainless steel carabiners instead of the hooks that they come with.

I really hope we get this situation figured out soon. We just completed our planning for our trip to Desolation Sound this summer. I do not want to be crossing the Strait of Georgia with a loose dinghy!!
