I was searching for fender covers for the fenders I keep on the dock and stumbled across a YouTube video of a guy who took some sweatpants and turned them into covers. Thanks To my niece and grandma, I actually can use a sewing machine so decided to give it a whirl. They turned out pretty nice and for $24 at Walmart beats the $120-$160 I would've spent for actual ones. We'll see how they are all they are cracked up to be and how well they hold up.

awesome, I wonder if you could waterproof them with some 303?

We have done this for several years - sure beats the expensive ones! You can get a couple of seasons out of a set of sweats.

I use the Taylor made cheap ones. soft, meshy, strecthy material. 19.00 for 2, and they dry almost instantly.

Good to know. We'll see how badly they fade after one season.

We used grey for the fenders that we had attached to the dock for the season - they blended into the weathered wood color. One year they faded badly and another year, they didn't fade at all - probably a sweat pants die quality issue as we didn't pay much for them at Wally World.

I just scored a LARGE fender, probably 12x36". It's a little tattered, but the sweatpants idea is the cats azz..

I did the sweatpants thing last year and they faded out so badly after a month that I just take them off. Be careful around wooden posts too; the sweatpants picked up a bunch of the splinters and other gunk and I actually thought they got MORE abrasive. If you can keep them clean though, they work great!

I made some out of my old bimini top sunbrella, was going to just throw it in the trash anyhow.

FIVE years later and still look great.

Where do you find these? Looking on Amazon, cheapest I can find is around $30 for one of the very small size. Anything larger, and I'm looking at 45-65 each.

Walmart clearance on 5XL sweats for $1.

Heck at that price you know I'm going to try this idea out.
