I'd like to change my spark plugs on Friday and was wondering where I can buy spark plugs for the 5E Kohler? I will order parts from mtspowersystems but was wondering of I can get spark plugs local for now.

Any suggestions if these plugs can be cross referenced to a plug that NAPA/Pep Boys would carry.

Thanks.

Not sure exactly the model year you have but I use GM46180=NGK BPR4ES=Champion RN14YC. I get the NGK's at the local auto parts store for $1.63 each. Some people use the next hotter plug (e.g. BPR6ES)

I just saw BPR6ES at HD - packaged for Honda lawnmowers - for $3.98. Couldn't believe it.

I haven't priced them at AZ yet...

I thought i read somewhere that the marine generators use a longer nose/threaded spark plug vs that of the auto type? I could be wrong...I would think being armed with the correct plug number (NGK BPR4ES) would get you the correct plug.

One other question about the Kohler 5E. Does West Marine carry an impeller for this unit? My other genset cross referenced to a Sherwood impeller that WM had in stock. And let me tell you, my other genset loved to eat impellers!!

I have a Kohler 7.3ECD from around '08. The plugs that are in it from the factory are NGK PGR5A. IMPOSSIBLE to find here. I wanted to use the same plug since I had pretty good luck with it, but have given up the search. The only cross reference I can find for Kohler's part #GM46180 is the reference above. I'm going to give the hotter NGK BPR6ES a try, unless anyone has something bad to say about them. Both the BPR4ES and the BPR6ES seem to be readily available at O'reilly Auto Parts. Any thoughts on the best one to use?

Kevin

FYI, BPR4ES is hotter a BPR5ES. For NGK Spark Plugs lower numbers indicate a hotter type, higher numbers indicate a colder type.
