Question for all my fellow DIYers out there

I email or text myself boat info, with it all ending up in an excel spreadsheet. I even take pics of all the gauges, hours and GPS speed and enter that info as well. Easier and safer than typing all the info underway.

We find that Boating Suite on the iPad is VERY useful and it will export to Excel too.

Thanks for the plug. I have an iOS app called Boating Suite that I develop and maintain as a side hobby. It does everything that you're looking for EXCEPT the automatic reminders. I've toyed with with reminders in prototypes but it's not as straightforward as it might seem and I haven't come up with a solution that would satisfy most users, most of the time. Everyone's needs are as unique as their boats and their schedules for maintaining them. I could do it based strictly on hours but that would require users to be very diligent in entering hours accurately and consistently. If you're not accurate and consistent, the reminders will be useless. Some users just want time-based reminders but that doesn't work for all types of maintenance.

Anyway, I think it's a great app and I've been using it for my own logs since 2009. It's not perfect and it won't ever be perfect, but it's a great tool and my labor of love.

You can find it at www.boatingsuite.com

Thanks,

Rob

Rob,
Just purchased the app, so far so good. You probably don't need it, but if you want any help, DM me, I am mainly a c# developer, but have several iOS apps that I maintain as part of my job. I would love to help make this a universal app, or any other enhancements. The schedule mentioned above is one we tackled in my job many years ago for the automotive industry, not that it would apply here. We paired time and mileage based service intervals with automatic reminders, but we also allowed customers to override the recommendations. We had the luxury of always knowing the mileage, since that is the first thing dealers do when your car comes in (and we predicted usage based on historical data, hard to do in the boating world), but you might be able to collect hours if you knew when a user was near their boat (location aware app), and you knew what the boating season is (FL = all year!), you could prompt the user to enter the hours on the engines, maybe just once a month IF they were near their boat during boating season.
