Got the boat out of storage this morning. Had it stored in an underground mine. About the only thing I accomplished was to get my old Oakley Razor Blade sunglasses out of the boat and fix them. They had a broken leg on them and I bought a new pair of Oakleys last year but would rather not take them on the boat so was looking at buying new legs for the old ones. They are anywhere from about $30-50 for the legs. I have had about 3 pairs of this style since the late 80's. Last weekend I was cleaning my garage and found an Oakley box in my one cabinet. Turns out I had a brand new set of legs in there. Made me happy! Oh, didn't get anything done on the boat yet...lol. My plan was to get the rest of my trailer lights working today but turns out they were all working except a couple that I knew needed replaced so have to order those so nothing to do there until they get here.
Tomorrow the plan is to reinstall the plugs and hoses, install the new alternator, and mount/install my new battery charger. If all goes smooth and I still have daylight then I may wash the boat then start with my 3M eraser and start removing the long blue stripe above the rub rail.

Dropping the boat next Saturday to get a new camper top made. Hopefully get it back on the 8th so I can start buffing and polishing. Want to redo some of the teak again and just general cleanup. Also have to reinstall the outdrive, change engine oil and outdrive oil. Should be good to go after that!

Curious if storing it underground do you still need to winterize?

I do keep it at Wampum mines. Are you familiar with it?

I do winterize but it isn't necessary. It doesn't go below 55* inside. All I do is drain the engine and the fresh water tank, as well as the porta potty. It should be good even if it does freeze but I think (hope) we are over that for this winter.

Ended up not getting as much done as I had hoped today. I got the drain plugs and all hoses hooked back up today. Ended up making a trip to Fox Chapel Marine and West Marie today. I bought a trailer part at Fox Chapel about a month ago and had to return it and went to West Marine to exchange my oil suction tool for a bigger capacity one and returned the SAE 40 oil for Shell Rotella 15W-40 after a few people recommended it. So with the driving around I lost time to actually work on the boat. If it doesn't rain tomorrow I plan to install the new alternator and battery charger. I do have a question about the charger but probably better to post it in the relevant section.

Go the new alternator mounted and working on the battery charger now. Shouldn't take long for that. That will likely be all I get done today as it is supposed to start raining at about 2:00PM and the race starts about 3:30 so I will probably call it a day after the charger is installed. I went to Auto Zone and Advanced Auto but neither have the belts for it so I will have to order those somewhere. Going to keep the old belts on the boat for spares in an emergency.

Scorpio, I live about 10 minutes from the Wampum mines. We boat on the Ohio but keep it on the Beaver River right where it dumps into the Ohio.

Got the battery charger installed but looks like I have to move it. I installed it on the outer shelf port side behind the fresh water pump but read where it should be mounted vertically for cooling efficiency. Still not sure if that means standing up or laying down? lol.

checked the OD alignment tonight and it is dead on. first time i ever did that. i first inserted the tool and it slid in very easy and bottomed out. i thought maybe it was hitting the splines and not going in at all cause it was going in so easy so i put grease on the end of the tool and re-inserted it and saw the spline marks in the grease so it was going in but it went so smooth and easy it must pretty darn close. happy with that. i didn't change anything, only removed the OD for winter to clean and paint it but wanted to check the alignment before i put it back on

outdrive in on and all grease fittings greased, including trailer axles

My uncle who lived in New Castle used to keep his RV in the Wampum mines. I went with him once and it was so weird driving in there in a motor home. A friend of mine went to high school in Fox Chapel so I'm familiar with the area. Had another friend who lived north of Pittsburgh in Armstrong CO. they boated on the Allegheny. Those locks out there are fascinating.

My step-son is a police officer in New Castle and my office is in Fox Chapel but I work from home. Small world. Pretty cool!

Two of my cousins are and were probation officers, one in New Castle, now retired, and his brother is probation officer in Mercer Co. Very small world.

It isn't nearly as pretty in real life...lol. at least not in the parts i have seen. it is dark and dirty. the first couple of hundred feet are concrete floors and white painted walls but after that it is dirt floors and dirty stone walls...lol. still a good place to store stuff. humidity is high but i go through a few buckets of humid-dry every winter
