Sea Ray on the cover of Power & Motoryacht

Zeusmt...remember I do not boat like most or like I would prefer to. I leave in the dark and tie up at after sunset each day. I am usually arriving after the fuel dock is closed and have dined in many convenience stores as they are the only ones open in walking distance. I have to go in weather that I would rather stay tied up to a dock in and make schedules that sometimes resembles the same if I were traveling the interstate at 70mph...which I am not. It is Monday morning now and I am off to Nassau today, and will have to return in one days times on a 650..long haul there. Wed, I deliver a 590 in Lauderdale and get on another 650 Thurs to travel up to Merritt Island. I then get in a car and drive south to attend the Palm Beach Boat Show by the weekend, and then on Sunday I get aboard yet another 650 in Lauderdale and head north. I will not see a TV or local newspaper until a week from today.
As for how to get this job...I spent over ten years in Lamination (fiberglass) building boats, then transferred over to the assembly area and built the Laguna fishing boats and interiors on sport yachts and yachts. I spent a couple years installing electronics on dashes and even a couple more in the Quality Assurance dept. I then moved over to the Customer Service dept. where I first met many on this site. I have been driving boats my whole life growing up in Cocoa Beach but moved over to being the SR Capt. around ten years ago...all-in-all 32 years at Sea Ray Boats has me in the position I currently hold, which is more than half of my life time.....that's how!

Capt. Rusty

And Sea Ray could not have a better ambassador for their brand and product line!

Keep up the good work Captain!

My favorite print magazine - probably the only one I go cover to cover on every month.

Haven't sat down to read the full article yet - quick skim. Very nice.

Wondering about some of the photos on the inside spread, was the person on the fly bridge posing at the helm - while the boat was operated from the lower helm?

The cover photo which shows both boats underway - that's a lot of $$$ on plane at close quarters.

I would have enjoyed more photos of the boats and less words why Sea Ray's are so good (although they are)

When in close quarters with another boat or the helicopter carrying the photographer, the folks on the bridge are usually "talent" (models) from an agency. When talent is sitting at the helm on the bridge, the boat is actually being operated from the lower station, usually by Captain Rusty Higgins, a veteran Sea Ray employee with a USCG masters license and more time at the helm of Sea Ray boats than anyone else on earth.

Capt.Rusty, I wish I had even a tenth of your evening to morning experience so I could be more comfortable with boating at night.

stunning boats when I hit the lotto it will be the first thing I order

dwna1a...come with me sometime !

Thanks Casey !!! say hi to the family for me. Only guy I know to get a plant tour from the pres himself!!

Have arrived back from the Bahamas, attended the Palm Beach Boat Show, then brought a 650FLY up yesterday from Lauderdale. Tomorrow I leave for Charleston on a new 460FLY, then back to the Bahamas on a new 550FLY orientation next week......I do not keep a score card but once again, FW is probably correct in his assessment of my helm time. So bad that when backing up in my car, half the time I am wishing I had two engines to spin it faster.

You know you are spending a lot of time on a boat if:

Your friend gets a new car, first question you ask is about the LOA and the BEAM.

You refer to parking places as slips.

When parking at the mall, you pause to ask your mate if the fenders are out.

You realize the reason you have a house, is to store the things that won’t fit on the boat.

You get out of bed during the night at home, stumble into the bathroom, then your foot reaches for the vaccuflush lever.

After getting a new car, you spend days coming up with a name for the car that reflects your lifestyle and interest. You are really serious if you paint the name on the trunk. You are over the top if you add the “port of call”.

You keep looking at your car’s navigation system to find out how to set up waypoints.

You keep trying to switch your car’s navigation system to radar view.

When parking your car you consider which direction the wind is blowing.

You no longer go grocery shopping, you “provision”.

Not impressed, I had a 2 hour tour with Rusty Higgins. I win!

Former Sea Ray President Rob Parmentier gave a very thorough (and if I may say exhausting - Capt. Rusty knows what I mean!) tour of the facility. I have never had the opportunity to take the Capt's plant tour. However, I was fortunate to be on the receiving end of a personal tour by Capt Rusty of the then brand new L650FLY at the Miami Boat Show a couple of years ago. Hopefully on a future ship to FL, I'll be able to hook up with him and tour the factory again!

Ken, both of us, and anyone who can take a tour of a Sea Ray should be considered winners!

Again, the biggest winner is Sea Ray for having such a great ambassador.

JC, good to hear from you, hope all is well with you.

We have our requirements pretty well nailed down on the next boat. Everything slowed down the last few months due to work and other commitments - but still moving forward. Give me a call sometimes to catch up.
