400 sundancer

What are these cruising at? Speed/rpm and with what power. seems there all over the place when I ask.

There are variables like how clean the hull and running gear is and full or empty fuel and water etc. But, I get just over 25 MPH at 2300 and that is very close to 1MPG on the long term average; that's a burn rate of just under 26GPH. You will not find these numbers unless Diesel powered.

And I run at about 20 knots at around 2400 RPM but that is with stock gauges (which are not accurate). That equates to about 23 MPH. We keep the boat provisioned pretty well so it may carry a bit more weight than some. Not sure of the discrepancy otherwise.

I run at about 23.5 knots at around 2300 RPM and burn about 22.5 GPH with full tanks and fully provisioned. Tabs almost all the way down.

California seawater - it's "taxing" on performance.....
Time to buy that place in Florida!

Wow! That works out to about 27 MPH at 1.2 MPG. Hooray for diesels! I'm looking forward to numbers like that when I get my new to me 410 home in a few weeks.
My old 300 Sundancer with the new 5.7 gassers I put in 5 years ago and sterndrives with stainless props cruised at about 29 mph on GPS on average at 1.2 MPG measured by the fuel flow sensors. If I can get close to those numbers with my 410 I'll be a real happy camper.
The 300 jumped out of the water up on plane with no help from tabs at all. I know it'll be a lot longer and harder to get the 410 up, but 27 MPH would be a fantastic cruising speed with the 410.

Clarification: I meant to type 22.5 knots at around 2300 RPM, but we were returning from vacation and there was a little air turbulence at the time. Not a huge difference, however I don't want to be misleading. While the 410 doesn't exactly jump out of the water, I find it gets up on plane fairly quickly for a boat its size and if you like the sound of the turbo diesels spooling up you're in luck.

I am running in fresh water most of the time. The boat sits deeper in fresh water so it probably drags a bit more. Last year when running to the bay I noticed my speed pick up as I entered the salt water but still not 3 MPH more.

Must be a light boat? I have had some fuel issues and actually changed all of my filters and added a bunch of biocides yesterday.

I posted a clarification earlier today to say 22.5 knots, and sorry for any confusion. I'm fairly certain my boat is not light, and if anything I would have thought I'm running a little heavy after adding a bow thruster w/ dual batteries, all chain anchor and rode, and sat tv, full provisions for a week at a time, etc.

Probably similar weight to mine then. Must be my fuel or props.

Hopefully you figure it out. I use fuel additives a couple times a season, and add a biocide at least once a season as well. I had my props prop-scanned a couple years ago and that helped a lot. Also, when changing the fuel filters last season I was looking around with a flashlight and I happened to notice my filter elements were filthy above the filters, so I had them disassembled and acid washed.

22.5 knots is still close to 26 MPH. That's still a respectable speed. Mine also has the Sat tv, all chain rode, and bow thruster with two batteries so the weight should be pretty similar. I know I'm not going to be able to zip around like I did in my 300 but I'd be very happy with something between 25 and 26 MPH in a boat as heavy as this.
