Considering an electronics upgrade as well. Thought about what you did and if I did I would just have some glass in that couple inches. Also looking at a way to center a unit in the dash. But again requires glass work. What radar did you match with the 8212? I don't have an upper e box so not much space to put electronics without some major work.

Well I'm doing a minor upgrade. Not sure how soon it will be done, Waiting on Glass work. I will post pics when completed. All electronics Garmin

Has anyone replaced the flooring in the salon, going from carpet to wood? If so, I am looking for advice. I am trying to decide if it is worth doing myself or contracting out.

If you did it yourself, did you remove the sofa and/or the island off the kitchen and put flooring under, or just trim around? Did you find that the general contours of the floor plan made it really difficult to precisely cut your pieces? What tool(s) did you use to make your cuts?

If you contracted it out, what did you pay?

I have done a wood flooring job before in a room with an angled wall, but I assume this is going to be a more involved job due to the number of complex/intricate cuts.

Well this is what I'm considering. Just can't decide when I want to go through the pain. What garmin units did you go with? 2 12,s? 1 16"? Are you keeping the analog gauges?

How will you get the floor panels up if ever needing major (or some minor) service work?

If you install a floating application, it is not terribly difficult to disassemble and re-assemble- just like putting together a large puzzle. If you number the sections, it is pretty easy.

So trying to match the gel
On the helm would be difficult but might be the final solution. Unmatched with Garmin XHD radar. I am impressed. I have been able to pick up seagulls floating in the water.

I am also thinking of adding a sonar unit, what are the thoughts of drilling holes in the bottom of the boat? I hate the item of doing it. I have talked to others that have used the transducer hole and enlarged it. But again that is still putting a new hole in the bottom. Thanks.

I am going to try 3 8212's across the area in front of the wheel and delete the CAT gauges. Keeping the fuel gauges only. Won't know if they will fit until the helm is finished. Rough measurements have me with less than a 1/2 inch to spare side to side.. Glass guy says it's close. He can't easily cut into the vertical part of dash so to speak. If they don't fit, then 2 in front of me and one in the old radar area. and add other electronics around them.

Scott Rickey, Good idea, didn’t think of numbering the planks for re assembly. I was going to re-carpet the hatch area and re-vinyl wood floor the galley over to and under the dinette like I have seen on earlier posts. I had already picked out the same flooring that Felizdream used on his 400DB.
But me knowing that these after-coolers MUST be serviced every 2 years and the sound deadening characteristics of carpet, I will probably stick with my original plan.

I'm sure you know that the factory built in solid pads for transducers, thru hulls etc... during lay up. I'd be very careful about putting a new hole into just balsa unless you went to extra lengths to isolate the coring.

Hence my fear. I will pay someone to do the work. I am going to try to use the transducer hole that is already there if I go forward. Thanks Aaron.

I put down true hardwood into the salon area this past summer. I had it professionally installed by a true craftsman who did a wonderful job. I did this only after I had the 1000 hr service done on the 3196's as Cat needed the floor to come out on the port side and had to take the couch and corner furniture to get the panel up. He was able to get to the starboard side without taking out the panel. I have been lucky that our mechanics have been able to service most of the other issues so I am hopeful I will never have to take up the floors. They glued down plywood and then stapled the wood. Cost was $4,000 including materials. It looks awesome, so much so that my neighbor that also has a 48 did the same.

Has anyone put video cameras in their ER? I am considering using the Garmin cameras to go with my Garmin system. How many did yo use and where did you place them.?

I installed a dome camera on the ceiling just as you step down into the walkway between the engines. I can see the sides of both engines and the front bilge to see if any fluid or water is collecting there. Also ran the cable for a camera over the back bilge but haven't gotten around to installing one. Mine is a SPECO brand.

I installed 2 cameras in the ER each pointing towards an engine. Running to a DVR and also a small monitor on the bridge where I can view while underway. Also other cameras in 3 locations. I used security cameras that have a very good night vision picture. Hardest part was routing the cabling. Camera 2 with the thermometer in view was turned around so I could monitor the ER temp over the winter from anywhere. The picture quality was excellent , below is a screenshot so it doesn't look great here. In the ER pics it's complete darkness .

Has anyone replaced the radio amplifier up under the flybridge helm? Been putting this off for two seasons because I am struggling on how to reach it. I can wedge myself up under the helm, but only able to utilize one arm. Someone must have replaced it. I'm not the smallest guy (6'4"), but wow it seems impossible. Thought of removing the AC air handler or maybe going at it from the front seats and cutting an access hole from under the seat. But would need to remove the U-shaped seating to get to it. Any thoughts? Need a midget. Thanks. Dave

I was looking at mine a few weeks ago and thought the same thing. There is also a bus back there with no access. I only know of someone tearing the AC out to get there, but wow that location is horrible
