410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

For replacing your head unit, would this help? Allows you to use old remote with new head unit and existing cable... Ebay: "Clarion CCUMRA1 marine remote adapter cables. This adapter cable allows you to install a newer 2009+ Clarion stereo 8 pin and plug right into your existing older style 6 pin Pre-2009 Clarion remote." I am thinking about how I want to tackle this myself.

Well...unfortunately mine is for sale. Love the boat and someone is going to get a really nice deal.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Excellent choice of boats! I have a 2001 410 Sundancer that is currently for sale in Ohio (Lake Erie). It is gas-powered, but a very clean and updated boat and has prove to be perfect for our type of boating. The only reason we are selling it is that we are getting into the "college years" and know that we won't be using it very much this coming season. I'm not trying to sell it to you... though it is listed with a broker ;) but rather just to tell you how much we enjoyed this boat. In my opinion, it is one of the greatest layouts Sea Ray has developed. We liked the 400DA as well, but after getting onto a 410, we said "wow." Just a few minor differences that really pushed us to the 410 over the 400--both in the cockpit and the cabin. That said... different strokes for different folks. I don't think you can go wrong with either boat. Good luck!

Regarding the "few minor differences", what were they for you, if you don't mind me asking.

Yes with the Clarion M303 with wired remote MW1 and RF wireless remote MF1. You are right routing the wired remote is a serious pain. I'll take you through it

TTMOTT, Thanks for the instructions, sounds like a 6 pack afternoon job!

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Easy 12-pack. A couple of other notes - The newer wired remotes require a bigger hole in the helm, and that hole needs to be offset from the existing hole to clear the shifters (at least in my boat). A rotary rasp on the end of a drill works great albeit pretty slow. I ended up having the solon and cockpit on separate amplifiers and installed switches for the amplifier trigger wires so if I wanted only audio in the solon like for watching a movie then simply switch off the cockpit. Think about it as when everything is apart that's the time to do these types of things.... A couple of pics -

I'll step in, since Bryan is barely a boater anymore. (btw Bryan, did I take that pic at the bay in your listing?)

I love my 400, but what I envy about the 410 includes:

- direct access from master stateroom to the head. (trade-off is that after the 2000 model year, you get to be the owner of an additional pocket door and the head countertop is smaller)
- two portholes in the galley. The port-fwd porthole in the 400 is behind the cabinets. (tradeoff is less upper cabinet space)
- convertible sofa instead of re-configurable sofa (trade-off is a straighter sofa not as good for conversation and entertaining)
- the previously-mentioned molded-in steps from cockpit to deck and the integrated transom door.

amajamar, I bought my 99' last year and love it. I think this is one of the best models SeaRay has designed. Some of the things that I notice and the reason I chose the 99' are as followed. The swim platform on the 97',98',and 99' you have more sitting on the upper platform. On the newer models the trunk takes up the center of the upper platform and sitting is only on each side. In the cockpit (and this is just personal preference) the companion seat backrest has a opening in it on the newer models and I liked the no opening backrest. I like the seats better in the newer models other than that. In the 99' you get the newer model captain seat but the rest of the seats are like the 97's and 98's. I don't care for the 97's and 98's captains seat. Therefore the 99' was perfect for my taste in the cockpit seating area. Down in the cabin I like the cabinet arrangement better in the 97',98',and 99's. The cabinets over the sink go all the way to the ceiling and have more storage space. On the newer model they are almost all filled with microwave and coffee maker (although you get an extra port window I think). Most of the storage is over the couch and I didn't want the dishes and misc. kitchen stuff over the couch(again personal preference). As far as gas vs. diesel goes I wasn't going to buy a gasser, that is until I did some research. Don't get me wrong I would probably prefer diesel but, my location/area I boat on the lake gas made more sense. My marina doesn't carry diesel therefore any savings in MPG would be ate into going to get diesel. I was worried the 7.4's were going to be underpowered for the 400 but I was way wrong. They plane the boat with ease and cruise around 3200 RPM's at about 22 knots. I have seen 34 knots WOT but I don't do that often...$$$$...LOL. Don't get me wrong I would not of passed up a newer model if one would of came available. All the stuff I mentioned are personal preference. Hope this helps you and if you have more questions just ask. This is a great site with lots of knowledge.

TTMOTT mentioned that too. If you don't carry a dinghy on the platform it's probably not a big deal, but no upper platform would be a real hassle for me.

Just for the record, 2000 was an overlap model year, so there were both 400's and 410's.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Yeah I knew that about the 2000, but didn't mention it. I was actually getting ready to look at a 2000 on the west side of the state right before my broker friend called me on mine that I have now. Once I looked and got the history on mine I couldn't help myself. Original owner (70 years old), bought at local dealer and never left the lake hardly, 390 hours on the engines, 100 hours on the genie, had the SeaRay sheets still in the wrapper, professional marine service did all the maintenance every year. Love the 400..

Fairly simple stuff... cabin design, cabinetry (cherry), hull design, upholstery, etc. Most importantly, though, I have the 8.1s vs the 7.4s. I much preferred the 8.1s so that really pushed me toward the 410.

I do like both of them too. I would prefer the diesel option, though (I believe?!). When you say "hull design", I was under the impression that they essentially had the same hull. What are the differences?

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

TTMOTT, Whoa, what a great piece of work! You are hired come on over!

No, really that is one of the best combinations of electrical and fine cabinetry I have ever seen!

Sorry... maybe "hull design" was a bit misleading. I was referring more to overall exterior design. The 410 just looks a generation more modern to me and has that timeless Sea Ray look to it.

This may seem like a trivial detail, but it's everything for us. We sit on the upper platform with our feet on the lower platform almost every single time we're on the boat. If you stern in and have a social marina, you'll spend hours sitting on that upper platform. I can't even imagine not having it. Different strokes for different folks!

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

We have the 410 and I completely agree not having the upper step on the swim platform is a pain, the upside of the 410 as noted below is the upgraded seat look out back and the entry to the forward head from the master.

Ezsteps, you have basically captured most of what we really like about the 400. I also like the additional "step" across the swim platform, as it will essentially provide a larger platform there as we intend to have the dinghy on davits when we are traveling.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

I have a 400 Express. Has anyone ever replaced the windshield wiper motor on the starboard side?

I have removed the port one a few years ago (still does not work ). Fairly straight forward. Biggest thing is the wiring is very tight. Not much play in the wiring to work with.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

As I understand it through my research, there are some nuances to using these adapters, i.e. certain buttons like mute might not work, the remote's LCD screen may not light up, etc. I'm going through a complete stereo and electronics refit right now and I'm biting the bullet and running new cables for my new remotes (helm and cockpit aft) and doing it right once/the first time. Requires a little more work in running cabling through tight spaces but I'm doing that anyway as I'm running brand new speaker wire everywhere in the cockpit too from the cabin.
