I had a boat for a while fitted with these - they did work quite well, and they dont have a large piece of sheetmetal as a hazard to swimmers trying to climb on to the swim platform...... but they are easily damaged (especially if they arent fully retracted and hit a trailer bunk.... I never had any trouble with them whatsoever, but do some quick internet searching, and there are many who claim problems..... I liked them.
