Hey all, So I just bought my first boat, a 185 sport. I intend to do some wake boarding, tubing, joyriding and some occasional fishing. I don't really plan on going in the ocean but I will be in the Manasquan River and Barnegat Bay in central New Jersey. The 2007 185 does not have a factory depth finder so Im going to be buying some electronics. I started looking around and quickly found many brands and a wide spread of prices. My question is: Im looking for a basic GPS, depth finder, fishfinder. Im a newbie looking for some experienced opinions on what to buy and what not to buy? Thanks for your advice

I am a fan of Garmin products due to the fact that they are user friendly & the charts look like paper charts. You will find many varied opinions on this based on people's technical abilities & comfort level with familiar products. I'd do some online searching & head to a marine store where they may have a demo of the product that interests you. Good luck on the hunt!

Try the raymarine c95. Its the bomb. Use garmin in the plane and there is nothing that comes close, but in the boat gotta recommend Raymarine MFC. It does it all and is very affordable.

First and foremost call the folks at BOE, you won't regret the call.

My bubby has a smaller boat like yours, he went with the Simrad unit. He does a great deal of fishing in the York River and its creeks. He wanted the forward scan and loves it! The shows will show you the latest and greatest, BOE will advise you on the units out there and what fits you and your needs. Jim and his staff were great to work with on my needs for a complete upgrade.

Rats... I've also thought about forward scan -- with a 3' - 5' bay and 32" draft it might make sense.. After all, with a transom mount that 3' reading is already under your stern...

Did your buddy end up with an NSS evo2 with a thru-hull forward scan, and a down/side scan on the transom?

The GO7 can use a transom mounted TotalScan or a TH forward scan - but not both on the same unit...
