Official 390 E.C. Thread

Got the Sea Dancer into it's new slip yesterday. Left the previous owners slip in the North Fork of the St. Lucie River around 9:00AM, stopped for fuel at the SandPiper Resort and stopped again in Ft. Pierce to drop the previous owner off.

Once I cleared the various Manatee No Wake Zones North of Ft. Pierce I pretty much set the speed at around 18-19 MPH (2750 RPM) and made it to the dock at Grille's Riverside in Melbourne by 4:30PM where I picked up my daughter for the last leg of the trip. Side note: The marina at Grilles is pretty tight. Had just enough room to spin her around. Definitely won't try that again on a really windy day.

Jess and I made the run from Grille's to Harbortown and were tied up in the slip by 5:45 PM.

I haven't looked at the exact miles but it was somewhere around 120 miles covered on water and she ran flawlessly the whole trip.

Heading back to the dock today to go through all of the drawers and cabinets as the owner left everything aboard except his clothes since he was retiring from boating. We'll inventory and sort as needed. Also need to check the dates and such on the extinguishers and flares.

Let the fun begin.... :)

120 miles is a great shakedown cruise. Congratulations! Sounds like you got yourself a good boat. Best of luck with it.

Thanks. I had to weed through a bunch of boats to get to this one.

Spent the weekend digging through every compartment and cabinet. I can't believe how much stuff was on the boat.

She's getting hauled out tomorrow for fresh bottom paint and the install of the second tab set.

Anybody know the thickness of the transom? I'm installing a second set of tabs and I need to make sure I take the correct length bit when I drill the 1/2" hole for the hydraulic line.

Thanks!

Edit: Found out on my own that standard length drill bits work fine. At the very bottom where the tab brackets mount it's about 3/4" of solid glass. Further up in the area where the Zinc is there's about 3/8" to 1/2" of glass on each side of 1/2" of wood for a total thickness of about 1-1/4" to 1-1/2".

Can anybody suggest why the electrical outlets are not working in the cabin even with the panel breakers on? The GFI in the bathroom is not tripped and it's not working either.

Everything worked fine we disconnected shore power, moved the boat, reconnected and now the outlets are dead. At least the AC works... :)

If the breaker is on, then the GFCI receptacle may require replacement. Shut the breaker off, remove the GFCI receptacle, turn the breaker back on and check to see if you have voltage at that point to rule out a bad breaker.

There is a second GFI outlet just to the left of the refrigerator behind the sink. Mine will trip once or twice a year for no apparent reason. When it trips it will kill the cabin outlets.

Thanks guys! I'll get back to the boat Friday and see what works.

Edit: It was the GFI in the Galley as you said. Thank you.

Hello all! Proud new owner of 1988 SeaRay 390 EC that has been neglected for about five years.

I just got her from her original owner about two weeks ago. It has been docked on a canal just off the ICW near Ft. Launderdale.

I've taken the time to read through this entire thread and thank ALL posters for your insight and experiences. Trust me - I'm soooo glad I did as the information about the drive shafts dripping 4 drops per minute while under way was invaluable information. I towed it a substantial distance last Saturday, and while under tow, it was leaking a LOT more than 4 drops per minute on the starboard. But at least I knew how to stop it and why it was leaking.

Since she hasn't run in about five years, I'm concerned with how I go about cranking her up and getting her running. I'm fairly mechanically inclined having done substantial auto mechanical repair/rebuild over the years, so these are my thoughts:

1. Replace with new oil, oil filters, fuel filters, water-fuel separators, spark plugs;
2. Remove spark plugs, squirt Marvel Mystery Oil into all cylinders and allow to soak for substantial time;
3. Ensure I'm using fresh fuel.

Questions:
A. For how long minimum should I allow Marvel Mystery Oil to soak in cyclinders before initial cranking of engine?
B. Should initial crank of engine(s) be with or without spark plugs for any strange reasons?
C. Any other concerns / procedures I should follow?

Anyway, I thank you all in advance for your time on these questions.

I wouldn't even consider firing those motors without taking off the distributors and priming the oil pumps first.

Anybody know where the get the Lens for the 12V 2 Step Cabin Lights? The one for the Mid Cabin is missing and nowhere to be found.

I checked the SR parts book and it gives part number 13065 as the whole light assembly but a search was not fruitful.

Perserd,

Check the Gas. At 5+ years old it might not be too pretty and may need to be cleaned out. There are guys that advertise on Craig$ Li$t all over Florida that will come out and clean out the tanks for a fee.

Let me know how they work out. I haven't ordered any for mine yet because I was considering led replacements, but so far I haven't done anything with the lights that need attention.
