410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

I took off my plates you are speaking of, drilled a larger hole and then filled with 2 part epoxy. Let it dry and redrilled my holes including the one for the pin. Reinstall the hardware and now it is 100% water tight.

Great idea... when you drilled, did you hit wood coring?

I have had the boat now for just over a year. Still not reaching max RPMs under load. I am at 2,690 when I need to be at 2,800. I want to pull the props this winter and have them scanned but can't find any info on what my original specs are for my boat. Sea Ray has not been any help. Any other ideas? Much appreciated.

Hi everyone, I'll apologize up front as I admitadly did not read all 50+ pages of this thread and it was probably covered but here goes...

We're going to start dreaming/fantasizing/looking for our next boat in the next year or so. I have my eye on the early 2000's 380-410's, with a preference to the 400/410. Some of them have the 7.4's, did the 400/410 suffer the same water ingestion issues with the 7.4 as the smaller boats of the same vintage? Some of them look to have the water lift mufflers and others do not.

Any other huge things to look at while we begin the search? I know there was some cabinet laminate issues, but I would think that would be obvious.

I would love the diesels, but being fresh water on Lake Ontario with only a few trips a year I am open to both gas and diesels. I've been on two other 400's with gassers and they seem relatively happy with that power package.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Great choice on year's and size. I'd suggest looking only at boats with water lift mufflers. January 2001 the 8.1S was introduced to the 2001 410 with water lifts. To many issues with previous versions.
As for the delamination cabinet veneer high gloss finish. Don't let this be a hurdle for you. Www.restorationmarine.com. one of the employees is on this forum and can help you. I have a post I did last year on a repair I did with detailed instructions and pictures.

Cheers,

Mark

I've never heard of a 400 that has ingested water. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened, but it's not common. I was in the ER of my neighbors '98 370 the other day, and i was surprised to see how horizontal the log exhaust was. :wow:

Thanks guys. The 370 and it's ingestion issues is what made me ask, and one of the reasons why I will only look at 380's and up.

As much as I'd love the diesels, I can't seeing this being our forever boat. Given that and the waters we boat on (5 days a week we're less than 3 miles from our dock) I have to figure the gassers make sense given the premium that diesels are going to fetch. I'll be sure to keep you all posted as we start to search. The wife had a chance to go on two 400's and a 410 last trip and made my job of convincing her a non issue:smt001

I've got just what you are looking for ;) I have a very clean 2001 410 Sundancer with Mercruiser 8.1S engines... still under 200 hours. I'm getting ready to put it on the market--PM me if you are interested in learning more.

Lol! Actually thinking about getting out of big boating for a bit. We bought a center console this year and just love it. We'd really like to do some more traveling/exploring of other areas next year with it. It's a tough decision though... I just love my 410 so much and can't imagine not having her here on Erie.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

My Norcold in my '97 DA 400 finally quit...got back from a rough ride and it was dripping wet. Defrosted it and no more cooling. The compressor runs but I assume I have a leak in the tubing.

So what are my options? I hear its very tough to replace the Nevercold unit in this model searay and better to repair or rebuild. I have not removed it yet, but thinking I need to bring down a ply wood and pull of the condenser/compressor and evap unit and mount it to the board and drop it off at a shop. Any suggestions on where to get a new compressor or can you get a little smaller fridge to fit in? I'm bringing down a small dorm refrigerator next weekend and hope that fits thru the door and it can be placed in the aft bedroom since it really a storage room. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....sure someone has done this recently. I even have a spare power pack for this beast thinking that would go first.
Thanks....Ed

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Ed,
about 2 weeks ago, the day before I was leaving for a 10 day trip on the boat, my Norcold DE-041 died. I made the decision to replace it with the new Norcold DE-061. Well, so far, so good. It has a good amount of space, cools well and has, what I believe, is an even larger freezer section than my old unit. It held (along with a cooler) the food for our 10 days on the hook, including the ice cream treats for our son, and us.

Removing the the doors from the old unit, I was able to get it out of the boat with a friend's help. The new unit went in just as easier after removing the freezer door for clearance. The new unit slid right in and the screw holes even lined up perfectly!

i had considered and was planning on going with the Vitfrigio DP2600, but given the circumstances, I needed to go with the Norcold. So far, I am not disappointed.

Thanks...was feeling so much better that this unit would fit in but you have a different boat! looks like you have more room by your pixs. Has anyone installed this DE061 in a DA400?

Sorry, should have pointed out that I have a 400 Express and not a Sundancer. I had thought the 400 Sundancer had the full size fridge.

I might have missed it but did you say what model fridge you currently have?

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Mine did the same 2 yrs ago. Found the guys in a RV warehouse in TN. Direct replacement, only took 3 hrs to pull refrigerator out of the hole and replace the guts and put back. Google search the replacement condenser. I think I paid $600.00. With 2 day delivery. It included EVERYTHING. It's pretty simple.

Any idea of what was ordered? Sounds easier than dealing with the removal issues.

Any other suggestions?

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Sorry to change topics but I have a problem I haven't seen here before, when it rains really hard, like a 2" rain, I get water on my galley countertop in the corner by the fridge. For the life of me I can't see where it is coming in. The headliner is dry, I removed the panel where the wiper motor is above and it's bone dry. The shelf where the port holes are is completely dry, no water traces anywhere! Has anyone else seen this? Sorry again to jump in over the fridge issue.

Thanks,

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

I had that exact problem, and finally found that it was one of the port side windows. There are 3 knobs that swivel to latch, and I thought they were working however then I noticed the bottom one was not actually touching the glass. I tightened the screw in the center of the knob with an allen wrench several flats and walla the problem went away.

I hope this helps.
