This gelcoat was in really good shape having been stored indoors all its life but it needed a fresh polish and wax. Just love the Presta products. Used the ultra cutting creme light then colinite fleet wax. I also have Presta's polish which is suppose to give it an "ultra shine" but I seriously couldn't see any further improvement beyond the cutting creme light. Had I needed to use regular cutting creme I'm sure the polish would have given it a bit more gloss.

I think the pics speak for themselves.

This pic might just look like a pic of a fan and stool . .

BUT . . . zoom out and, well . .

I hauled my boat and buffed the rub rail down. I used buff magic but it was not quite aggressive enough.

Is Presta more aggressive?

Depends on what product you use. I think Presta has a better "system" of products. Buff Magic has always worked well as a good overall polish but I found it broke down too quickly and gunked up my wool pads as well. If you need more cutting power (and not a compound) use Presta cutting creme. If you need a little less agressiveness, use the cutting creme light. if you need very little cutting, use the polish. No one size fits all in my book. I have found that even though the cutting creme will remove a fair amount of oxidation it still leaves a very clear shine. The polish only makes it better. But on white boats most would say the polish is not needed.

You need to use a wool pad with a rotary buffer. Different pads will also dictate how aggressive the product works. I used my Milwaukee for that. It's heavy and my arms are tired! I use my Flex dual action polisher for tight spots.

The boat looks amazing , however I'd be interested in seeing more of the car at first I thought it was an original mini what is it ? Very coole

Gotcha.....will try it next year.......I have a non-working windlass to troubleshoot!

The car is actually a 1960 Vespa 400. Finished restoring it last year. Not many around . . . Often confused with a mini until you see them side by side and its much smaller!

Here's some recent pics from a Concours show I took it to. Got a blue ribbon!!

and of course, my Halloween costume last year . . . :)

So I noticed you are using a Shurhold polisher. I have one, and I'm disappointed with it. It could be 'user interface error', but when I am using a cleaner wax with the dark grey pads, it won't even pick up cobwebs between the rub rail and the hull - or even small smudges of dirt on the gel coat (smudges I can rub off with my finger)....what am I doing wrong - Wrong pads?

sorry to hijack the thread - I want my boat to really shine too....

Ollie- my polisher you see is actually a Flex brand. Now sure how they differ. BUT I only use it in tight spots. I use a true rotary with wool pads for everything else.

Amazing results!!!

I've looked at a LOT of boats over the years but I don't think I've ever seen one with that kind of shine. Nicely done!

Let me know when you are ready to tackle Beachcomber.

I have to admit... The first thing I thought when I saw the first pix was, why the picture of a fan and a stool? I had to go back twice before I realized it was a reflection!!!!

Great job!

The Shurhold is a random orbital and won't burn your gelcoat - however, it seems too weak. I used a regular Milwaukee tool buffer and wool bonnet when I first got the boat and it worked out great..... I just though it was me, but now I think its the polisher....

Thanks, for the info.....

GFC - I don't think Popeye would have the arms to do Beachcomber!!

Considering this boat is over 10 years old, I'm super happy with the results! I use to wax my Four Winns 260 with a black hull religiously and despite the fact that it was basically brand new when I got her it NEVER looked this flawless.

Presta Super Cut is not only more aggressive, it is way easier to use than BM!

Bought two cans of BM and their dual action polisher this year and was not impressed. Went back to the rotary with 3M imperial followed by Finesse-IT II and got great results. I'll have to look into this presta though, it's hard to argue those results
