Trying to find the location of the amplifier that came with the factory cockpit stereo, and having one heck of a time. Stereo is the original Clarion with 4 speakers and a subwoofer.

Anyone with a Five Hundred that has been able to find the mounting location of this amplifier?

Any help is appreciated!

On my 460 it is located under the helm. Have you looked there? How about checking the build diagrams from the SR website? These diagrams show every item on boat! Good luck!

I have a 2004 500 Sundancer, I've seen it while working on my boat a couple years ago and remember seeing it in a cabinet. I'll take a look this weekend and get back to you.

The factory interface cable is 6 ft long. Most are mounted directly behind the control head and cd changer as no operator controls are used.

Thanks guys...behind the panels on the forward facing salon couch was the location. Found quite a few interesting things. We replaced the 4 cockpit speakers, which had been changed out to Panasonic speakers somewhere along the way. Found that one was wired out of phase. The new speakers (JBL's) sound much better, but we will give them some time and see if they will stay. I would like to go with JLAudio, but we got these for a steal, so it was worth the chance. Found afterwards that the line between the starboard side speakers (connected in parallel) must be running right against something else, as the speakers emit a very high-pitched sound when the radio is off. Verified by connecting the two speakers with a direct line between them in the cockpit and the noise is gone. Running a line between those two locations looks to be a real PITA though.

The sub appears to be wired correctly with the owners manual diagram of using the front channels bridged to the sub, and the rear channels to the speakers. The part that surprised me is before finding the amp, I was convinced it was not set up as low-pass, because the sub sounded as if it was trying to function as a full-range speaker. I did find the crossover set at 110Hz, so I lowered it to about 55Hz. It sounds better, but I wonder if the crossover on the amp may just be not working correctly anymore. Thankfully, the amp is very easy to access, so changing that out should not be much trouble at all if we go that way.

The head unit and the wired remote still need to be replaced...have a new Fusion deck waiting to go in. I think I will leave that to the pro's though. Something that might take them a couple hours could take me all day (and still not be right).

Thanks again for the help on the amp location!

Brining this back up because I am wondering if there is a separate amp for the subwoofer? Found the amp behind the salon couch but want to make sure that's the only amp.
