I just booked a trip to this marina in Newport RI and was looking for opinion on the marina and the location. Also must do's and don'ts in Newport? Any restaurant suggestions.

Pretty much all the marinas in Newport are the same. That said, the yachting center is a good choice. Conveniently located, clean, etc.

lots of good restaurants in Newport. You can't go wrong with any of them by the water, just expect to pay. Clarke Cooke house is one of my favorites. While you're there, make sure you check out the mansions, especially the Breakers

I think that was next door to where we stayed.... Looked nice from what I remember... It's definitly in the middle of all the action....

We stayed at the Newport Harbor Hotel & Marina... Great location.. Right in the center of all the action too.. Docks are floating which is a plus for me and has an indoor pool for the kids...

Ok...this is a first class operation. Having said that it can be quite loud if there is a wedding or event going on in the big tent in the middle of the marina. Call ahead and make sure your not slipped near the tent.

They just did a major overhaul of their shore facilities. The docks are in decent shape. As others have said, you are right in the thick of Newport. Rent a car or scooters so you can see the island. For restaurants, some of my favorites are: Brick Alley Pub, Red Parrot, The Moorings, Sardella's, The Black Pearl... We live on our boat in the winter at the Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina. You can walk anywhere and have enough to do.

You will be "side to" on a long dock - if you want a pool, you need to go to Newport Marina (just south of NYC) or the aforementioned NHH (north past bowens and bannisters) As above, we used to stay year round at the NHH - lots to do in Newport, there is no off season - The Midtown Oyster Bar is a great restaurant and will be very close to you.

We live in RI and spend many weekends in Newport. In fact we just spent Memorial Day weekend there.
I agree with everyone about the marinas, most are good and about the same price wise.
As for the restaurants, Cook House, Black Pearl, 22 Bowen's, Scales, 41 North, all great places. There are no lack of restaurants on the water front.
Running parallel to Americas Cup Blvd. is Thames Street which has some really great bars with local bands that play on the weekends. Always fun for drinks, dancing and great music.
Besides the mansions to see I would check out Fort Adams. They have repaired and opened sections of it up this year for tours and it is a very neat place with a lot of history. The downtown shops are great too once you get by the touristy T-shirt shops. If anyone wants to hit the beach, a quick Uber to Eastons Beach or Second Beach is a great way to get there. They are about 1.5-2 miles from the marinas.

All, this is perfect, thank you for the feedback.
