Twin 5.7 with Bravo 1's
Well, its Memorial Day weekend and I'm still boatless. :smt100 I decided to hold off on a cruiser and have been searching for a larger bowrider. The 270 slx was number one on my list. But it had to have the 496, windlass, arch, and pumpout head. I've called on at least 5 listings . . . all sold!!:smt021 I've now decided to move on to other models . . . considered Formula and now have found a Crownline 300 LS that I haven't researched much but fits my needs. 2008, low low hours, twin 5.0, windlass, pumpout, rumble seat in back, rear facing speakers, huge amount of room, right color and a gorgeous Heritage triaxle trailer. I know crownline went thru some issues a few years back but always thought they made a good boat. Curious what some of you think of them? Quality? resale?

My only issue with Crownlines is the gelcoat seems to fade and oxidize....is it white?

I don't have any direct experience with Crownline...did you get out on a Formula?

The hull and performance are worth the price premium, as is the build quality.

I had a 266 CCR that I used on Lake Erie. Loved the boat and never had an issue with it in 5 years of the evil that Lake Erie dished out. Resale was very good but then again I'm neurotic about how my stuff is maintained. The first guy that looked at it bought it.

The darker hull colors will need constant maintenance. Mine was red and white and showed like new when I sold it even though it never spent a day of it's life in a garage. Keep it covered and waxed and it will hold up fine.

I had a Crownline 196BR and it was a nice boat. At the time the gelcoat finish was considerably nicer than several competitors. However that was 20 years ago. If the 270 SLX is what you really want, I would keep looking. Otherwise, you'll always regret the "substitute" purchase.

Good luck.

I agree.

Also, the fact that the 5 that you have called on are sold should be an indication of the demand for the 270. Keep looking and avoid "only what if"...

I looked a 2 Crownline cruisers before buying my 290 and both had terrible gelcoat oxidation, hence my comment about the gelcoat. Perhaps it was certain colors. There is a yellow one on my dock that is a nice boat.

Thanks all for the information and comments. I'll be honest, while the 270 slx always appealed to me this Crownline offers so much more for less money. I mentioned some of those features above. One big issue I have with the 270's out there is that most have no trailer or aluminum ones. I don't want to deal with getting a new trailer as well. Thankfully, the condition of it is nearly flawless despite the fact that it does not appear to have been recently polished and waxes to rectify a poorly maintained boat. So, being that its a 2008 I would assume if it was any more prone to oxidation that would have shown up. Going to take a closer look today . . .

My son a 20' Crownline Cuddy about 10 years ago that was a really nice boat. And there many nice boats out there that are not Sea Rays. There are more Sea Rays than other so you see more.

If you see a boat that works for your needs buy it!. Sea Ray isn't the only good boat out there. (There I said it)

Agree with Norcal. There are far too many boats that are in that size that are very, very nice. One is the Cobalt R7 and the other is Chaperrel 277SSX, both are equally nice boats.
