Memorial Day Air Show at Jones Beach, New York

Larry as much as I love the Coasties it wasn't a rescue, it was more of a transport to the hospital. As you know we're all pulling for a fast and full recovery ..

Your right Joe! I actually never put any thought into it, it was far from a "rescue". But they where there if I did go into shock on the way in, and I am glad you were there to call them...

That sucks, can you share what led to the injury to try and help someone else prevent the same thing happening to them? Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Ken,

Actually Joe and I were transporting my friends Pershing to CT from NC, my friend who owns the boat was driving for about 5 minutes while I laid down, he called me up to check out an engine alarm, when I got up from the couch I told him to slow it down, we where cruising about 30kts in 4-5ft seas, but the frequency got tighter and steeper and we were taking a few poundings and as I walked up to the helm I got thrown first against the ceiling and then landed on my left knee.... It was not pretty!!!

Well guys we are officially out for Memorial Day weekend, as most of you know I broke my knee cap in a boating accident last weekend. At this point all I have to look forward to is the Auguest flotilla... Hope you guys have a great trip and will be watching for the pictures. This was not how I wanted my 15 minutes of fame....:smt021

Hey guys. We will stay in our marina in Jersey City Friday night and load up our boat and will be ready to roll Saturday morning. I just bought a dinghy and lift. Will I want that for the raft up at Jones Beach or is it not necessary? Joe, I will email you for ur cell so I have it to correspond. Looking forward to it!

Bob,
there is a small beach that is nice to stretch your legs on. If you want to bring it, go ahead. However, there will be a few of us with dinghys and you could easily borrow one. You are welcome to use mine if you wish. I will have my dog, so I will be making several trips to the shore so she can do her "business."

yikes! Sounds like my trip back from Monterey last September. Running at 17 knots in 5' seas one on top of the other made it tough to go into the cabin, especially the head! Fun to levitate while sitting to pee!

Why are you sitting down to pee? !

Ken, while the conditions weren't perfect it wasn't anything the boat or the crew couldn't handle. I attribute it to bad luck and timing. If and when we where seated it was fine, 4'-5' ers with that boat at 30kts was no problem. I feel so bad for Larry as now his season is shortened significantly and all he was doing was helping a friend out. Ain't that always the way?????

Uh, getting pounded by 5 footers on top of each other didn't really allow standing unless I wanted a stream all over the head! I run about 225 lbs and was literally coming off of the seat! Probably should have slowed down but had other boats following us...

Rough seas is what the shower drain is for. :smt043

Well, I've got a million things to do before we can leave Friday, but assuming I get them all done we plan on arriving at Zach's Bay around 3:00 Friday afternoon. Will anybody be there by then? Also, does the group stay till Monday or is everyone departing Sunday afternoon? Tides don't look too favorable for a Monday departure. Joe, Can you circle on a chart exactly where the raft up usually is and post it here?

Brian,
I plan leave my home port around 3:30-4:00. I should arrive between 5:00-6:00 (depending if I need a stop at the fuel dock first).

We usually try to anchor in the western end of Zach's Bay near the pin in the attached picture:

Brian, we all stay till Monday so if your planning to leave before that I'd recommend you stay on the end of the raft.

Brian
Me and vinny are probably leaving the dock around 6ish so if you very hung up and end up leaving later let me know and we'll try our best to meet you right outside the anchorage and you can follow us over. 3476129655 my radio will be on 69 also.
We stay till Monday also and if your the first to arrive try your best to grab a spot that can accommodate or raft up.
Please and thank you
