WE bought our Amberjack this past January (first bigger boat) and love it, except my wife and I have to sleep apart cause there isn't much room. Has anyone, or heard of anyone, extending the sleeping are in the V-birth area? I was thinking that if I made a piece of wood just like the table-top, except 6 inches longer, that might be enough to make is big enough. I realize I will need to add additional support. Only other option would be a new boat...and I guess that's not such a bad thing either...LOL.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help so much with the sleeping arrangement but welcome to CSR!

First off - Welcome to CSR!

As for your sleeping arrangements, just remember that the added decking & supports that you build will have to be padded & covered and will still only give you room for your feet. I would suspect that it would not make sleeping much easier as that is not where the space is needed. When we sleep on our smaller boat I take the mid cabin, she takes the V. The added space is just so much more comfortable.

Thanks MWPH. She is sleeping in the mid cabin as it's roomier and warmer for her. I am in the V. Will update you what I do. She just needs a little more foot room on the V so sh doesn't have to curl up in a ball. Have a good weekend...

Joe,
How long is the V-berth area? I'm 6'2" and wondering if my feet will be hanging off the edge :)
Do/have you fished it yet?

If all goes well with the survey and sea trial, I will be bringing back to Grand Haven a new to me 2006 270AJ!

I went back 3 pages to find a "270 Amberjack" Thread
Looking to revive interest in the 27 ft. version of the AJ.
What'cha got ??

I just bought an 05 270AJ. 350 5.7 W/350 hours. First time in a boat like this (bigger than 21') any advice from other AJ owners that I might need?

Congrats on your new boat! I hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed mine. It's an easy boat to work on when needed.

Spend some time to get used to the handling characteristics of a larger boat. It's pretty nimble, but being heavier things take a bit more time due to the inertia. I moved from a 22" cuddy to the 270 AJ so I'm familiar with the transition. The AJ is pretty forgiving and easy to pilot so the transition shouldn't be too hard.

In terms of ride balance using the trim tabs judiciously is key. You don't need much but they really help trim out the boat side-to-side. They are very sensitive to input; use short taps to make adjustments vs. long presses.

Also use the drive trim to get the best bow attitude for the conditions and ride / efficiency. In flat water I've found I get best ride / speed / efficiency with the drive trimmed about 2/3 out. As the chop increases trim it out less to improve the ride and limit pounding.

I also just bought an '05 AJ 270! First boat, EVER.Really excited, but also a bit anxious - any tips, tricks, and / or suggestions would be great! Definitely planning on taking it slow and easing into it - but any help is always welcome! On another note, anyone have a good source for OEM parts? I am looking to replace a few minor items (gauges, hatches, etc.)Thanks!

Searay-parts.com is great. If you want anything else you can go to your local marine max. I'm not a big fan of our local parts people so I use treasure island marine in Panama City. They treat me great and ship direct to my door!
