Been reading the posts regarding the benefits of Aluminum vs. Zinc and looking at "Performance Metals" website. It seems like their aluminum pencil anodes that are built with a rod down the middle to hold the aluminum in place might be an answer to the problems in Cat 3126 raw-water cooled after-coolers, i.e., breaking off the zinc in the after-cooler when removing. Any of you 3126 owners have experience with the aluminum anodes?

are you in fresh or saltwater?

Most of the year I boat in Lake Ponchartrain which is brackish, with a trip or two in the gulf. I've always used zinc which seems to work (showing loss of metal).

Regarding he problem of zincs sticking in the aftercoolers, here's a hint I picked up from the Boat Diesel forum. You can make a cheap fishing tool by going to Lowes or Home Depot and buying a coupler nut for 1/4 inch all-thread rod. The nut will fit into the hole and screw down on the zinc and you can pull it out with vicegrips
