Official 240 Sundancer Thread

How to answer this question.....I don't "tie my anchor off" after raising it......per say. I let the windlass carry the weight, BUT, I do have a safety lanyard attached to the chain, then secured to the cleat on the bow. If the windlass failed the lanyard would keep the anchor from dropping. Also there is a latch on the windlass that can be engaged that would revent the drum from turning.

Hopefully you can visualize this.

thanks Mike, ill tie it off to a side cleat, shame there isn't one in a direct line from the bow, I don't think the muir 600 has a lock off?

I actually installed a bollard (fancy word for cleat) inline with the windlass, so when I anchor I can tie the anchor line to it. I'll see if I can find the pic of my set up.
The V-700 windlass "lock" is a red plastic latch on the side of the windlass. It works but it's a pain to use, because you have to go out on the bow to engage and disengage it.

Purging out the air? At the risk of sounding like a smart a$$. Open the faucet? Explanation, the air will push out the faucet as the water fills the tank, when you get water the tank is full.

Mike, not a smart ass comment at all imo. I've done that, opened the cabin hot water and the head hot water and turned on the pump and nothing is coming out? I even opened the drain valve at the bottom of the water heater and very little came out. This is why I posted....

Hmmm, ok. Have you checked the water inlet? Find the water line into the heater, and loosen it. See if water sprays out the fitting.
I'm assuming you have water pressure on the cold side.
Do you have a water heater bypass? It would be a three way valve in a line that is run between the inlet and outlet of the water line.
Remove the inlet line to the heater and make sure the line is not clogged up.
If none of that works, we can kick around some other ideas.
Oh, is the water pump actually pumping water? Meaning is the water pump primed and pushing water?

I would like to see your bollard pic Mike. I changed from day shift to nites, so had a few hrs this morning to tinker, the cooling system has a lot of blue drain taps, are you supposed to drain the cooling system after use? I have my boat on a trailer and have a large plastic tank to run fresh water thru it, as well as the "earmuffs"

The blue plugs are drain plugs and not necessary to drain the engine after evey use. Good idea to flush the engine with fresh water if your in salt water though.
Photobucket wasn't working, they are updating the web site so my pics are being held hostage untill they finish. When they do I'll find it.

I took the props off to grease the splines, and on the advice of a friend cleaned them with pool acid. I was astounded how clean they came up. They did have marine growth inside and out, perhaps from some years ago when it was on a mooring. Cleaned up like new with acid and a scourer pad.

Here is a pic of the bollard I installed. It's thru bolted, so it's strong. Sorry it took me so long to find it.

Mike, did you remove the cabin headliner when you drilled the bolt holes? if not did the headliner twist up around the drill bit?

I didn't remove the headliner. Two of the holes fell inside the anchor locker. Two went thru in the cabin. What I did when I drilled thru was use a small bit first. I had a friend (that trusted me haha) inside the cabin watch for the bit to come thru. I drilled slowly untill the bit started hitting the headliner. My friend cut a slit where the bit was coming thru, then held a wood block over where the bit came thru, with alot of pressure. Then I drilled the final hole size. Worked great, didn't twist up. I finished with a fender washer and a cap nut.

"clear skirt"?????? I don't think that is Sea Ray issued.

Its a spray guard, the mistake I mad was to join it together at the bow. It actually stops at the last verticals on the bow rail. Don't think I'll use it tho.

Dear all,

New owner 240DA 2004 from The Netherlands! Maybe can create some activity in this 240 thread :)

Slip is at our holiday home, south part of The Netherlands. Few minutes from large lake and 25 nm from the North Sea. Will use for sunset tours, towing and fishing. Planning to spend max. couple of days on the boat.

Besides cleaning, plan some upgrades:
- N2K netwerk, Lowrance HDS 3gen, 3D Scan, Chirp sonar, Point 1 GPS, Garmin 300i AIS VHF
- Bow roll and winch
- Change fabric cushions (cabin)
- Change toilet

Only sailed for 6 hours, but like handling and design, especially cockpit. I bought from dealer and have full 2016 warranty on all technical parts..

Keep you updated!

Brgds, Robert

Hi All,
Just took delivery of my "new" 2003 240 Sun Dancer. And I actually backed it into the slip first try ha ha. Say that because this is our first cruiser. Have had runabouts/deck boats for years but we have "moved up" as it were. Really looking forward to this upcoming boating season. Significant rain forecasted here in San Antonio all week but Saturday is supposed to be 83 degrees and sunny = guess where we will be? :)

I have a 2006 240 Sundancer with a Bravo III running a 20 pitch... This is what was on the boat when I purchased it.... Anyone have the same boat with a5.0L MPI... Let me know what pitch you are running and what performance you are achieving.... Mine is very slow out of the hole with a full load aboard... Once on plane I need to run around 3500 RPM to stay there with 4 or more people on board.... thanks....

Sounds like my boat performance. I changed props until I was blue in the face. Even had a 20" pitch prop set resized to a 18 1/2". That set works well for hole shot and load carrying, but wot was slow.
I finally found the Hill Marine four blade set, and had them tweaked for me. They work great. Hole shot, lower cruising speed, 3200-3500rpm and about 27 mph. they are expensive! But they maybe an option if you can't live with the stock merc 20's.

I have been enjoying my DA240 for a few months now, slept in it for a few days at a time on a few occasions at the marina, great waking up to dolphins swimming at the back of the boat. I installed a bollard for the anchor safety rope, mounted a 12v LCD TV, changed few globes for LED's, fitted a new VHF radio, installed 2 more rod holders, I had rain leaking into the cabin thru what I thought was the porthole, but was coming from the screws that secure the bow rail, they were quite loose. I initially had some problems retrieving it onto the trailer, the anchor was hitting the winch post, I lowered the winch and cut about 8 inches or so off the winch post, and moved the boat fwd about a foot on the trailer so the hull rides up on the front bunk sooner, its a lot better now
