Why I chose a Prestige over a Sea Ray ...

SWF340,

Thanks for the kind words. And, of course, it's wonderful to hear about your positive impression of your friend's boat. I just need to figure out a way to speed up the days to get to the end of March.

Michael,

Congrats on the ugrade to a beautiful yacht. I understand your points on compairing Prestige FLY to a SR FLY. As Steve indicated, I'll be curious on your transition from fully enclosed bridge to the FLY (totally open bridge).

Lots of luck and many fun and exciting voyages on your new yacht.

Thanks, Alex.

I'll be sure to report back regarding my experiences with a totally open bridge vs. an exposed bridge. I'll also let you know what it's like to have a fully enclosed helm in the cabin.

My boat is fly and has the lower helm. I have no issues with it at all. When the weather is raining or it gets "cold" here in Florida I use the lower helm. Sitting in air conditioning can't be beat on the long trips.

In the past I've used Haven a number of times for service and winter storage. Put it this way. I'm willing to go all the way to Annapolis for service and storage. That should tell you something.

Yes, my only experience at Haven this past summer when I had a hydraulic leak did not leave me with a positive impression. They were so concerned about their legal exposure for trying to help me and my Zeus POD problem that I was left on my own. I ended up diagnosing my issue myself with the help of guy I know at Cummins in NJ talking me through it over the phone. If I were to store in MD next year I will visit your recommendation.

I've always thought Haven's service department was supposed to be good, learn something new every day.

Hi quality time,

To be fair to Haven Harbor, I'm not saying they're not "good." Good is a relative term, of course. For the most part, they have skilled labor and can handle big jobs. However, things changed after Woody transferred from Service Manager to another position. Their current service manager's standard response is, "We're so busy, I just don't know when we can get to it." And, I've found getting updates on the status of jobs very challenging. Oh, and good luck getting your boat out of storage when you want. Again, always, "really backed up, at the moment." And, review your invoices carefully. I don't think they are dishonest but I've found mistakes multiple times on multiple invoices. And, those mistakes never seemed to be in my favor. One time, they charged me for a 100 lbs of resin rather than the 1 lbs they should have billed me for a small fiberglass repair.

I'm sure others have had good experiences. Christian is a particular skilled mechanic and very helpful and courteous guy. If you have engine work done there make sure he does it.

The disgruntled San lorenzo owner did a bang up job on that web site!

You aren't kidding! That's some horrible PR for sure! If I was the owner of San lorenzo I'd do whatever it took to get that website taken down ASAP.

It even comes up 3rd in a google search of san lorenzo yachts........right under san lorenzo's site!

Wow, if I was in the position to consider a San Lorenzo that thread would certainly take them off the short list.

Great post. Congratulations on your purchase!

I wanted to ask for advice.
I have been dreaming of a personal yacht for a long time.
I found a yacht that suits me in every way.
But I came across a blog of one guy. 55 Flybridge from Princess Yachts UK. And he tells how the company deceived him.
You can see his blog.

Now I dont know what to to.
Do you think it's worth buying this yacht or looking for something else?
What can you recommend?

It was brought up in the past that New or used.. its a good idea to have a thorough survey done prior to purchase so in a case like that blog.. you can walk away.
