Hi guys new to he forum here. Just picked up my 2009 48 DA and both aircons are not running in that they trip out. Error msg on the screen says "HIGH PS" so i guess its a high pressure cutout. Question is, should i see cooling water being discharged out the side of the hull like in my old 38DA or is it an underwater discharge ?

I have checked the inlet sea cock, that is open, the strainer appears clean enough, but i dotn know where the discharge point is.

ould this be an issues and hence the HIGH PS error messgae.

Thanks

Good to see another Sea Ray boater from Perth here. Did you recently pick the boat up through Brendon Greives - if so beautiful boat.

Sorry I can't help out on your question other than suggest reverting to the owners manual and see if that sheds any light on the discharge point.

Edit:

I've linked the parts manual for a 2007 48DA and am presuming it is the same/similar to the 2009 model year you have.

I quick look at the diagram on page 114 shows 3 hoses going to a common drain. This "may" link back to part 22 (page 7) being the common drain collector & discharge as shown in the diagram on page 6.

The AC discharge on a 48DA is on the starboard side at the far stern of the boat. I assume you turned on your AC pump at the AC power panel before you turned the AC units on and if so, you should hear your pump running. If you don't that's your problem. If you do, and no water is coming out the discharge then you likely have an airlock in the system. Easy to get out, just detach the hose from strainer (closing seacock first) and pump water into that hose from a garden hose while the pump is running.

Hi and yes i did buy through Brendon.

Nothing in the owners manual or that i can find elsewhere, hence the post.

That's a pic of my old 38 in Mandurah :) Great boat she was.

Cheers. 39degC today so in desperate need of air-conditioning !

Wow! That's hot! We have those air temps here in summer as well and cruising in the Chesapeake Bay the sea water temp can get to 32degC too. The good news is the ACs in the cabin can definitely keep you cool. The bad news is the cockpit AC in our boats are useless in that kind of heat unless you are right next to the air vents. I do wonder how the new Sea Rays like the 510 Sundancer which have completely enclosed cockpits do in that kind of heat. On the one hand, the sliding doors being closed would help keep the heat out and the cool in, but I have to imagine the greenhouse effect would cook the inside pretty good even with a powerful BTU unit. I have tried blasting my 20,000 BTU AC in my cockpit with my aft canvas up and my skylight windows shaded, but on a really hot day it still cooks....

Ceramic window tint is a wonderful thing.

Did you get your windshield done as well? Window tint aside, my visibility in the 470 is much less than my friend's 48DA and I'm a little worried about making it worse. Not sure where you boat, who did you use to do your windows?

My PO did the tint. Yes, the windshield is done too. It has more vertical solar acreage than any of the windows. Any good window tinter who does commercial office buildings should be able to come out to your boat.

I'll answer the next question you'll ask. Yes, the night visibility is less, but with all lights off in the cockpit and instruments on low, I can see just fine piloting at night. The daytime visibility is not affected.

My windows are tinted including the windshield, visibility is terrible at night which is why I'm having a FLIR MD-625 camera installed this winter. When I say terrible I mean I'm all instruments which makes me feel uncomfortable. The day time visibility is completely fine.

For only $5K it seems like the FLIR system would address one of the 48's biggest issues, night visibility. If the tinting made a big enough difference to fix the cockpit heat issues the combination of the 2 would make the 48 the perfect boat for all climates.

Please post back when you've had it installed and tried it out.

My 48DA came with a factory black mesh screen (like you see on bridge boats) that snapped over the windshield. It really blocks the sun during the day and is easily removed for night vision. The 540DA has the same, and I'm getting screens made for the side windows which will really cut down on the greenhouse affect.

Hey Jon! Boating yet??? My friend Jim with the 48 DA who you met last summer at SJ Marina in Cape May is looking to tint his windows. The guy he contacted said his windshield is larger than the sheets he has. Do you have a contact for who did your windows?

Hey Jim,
Not yet, I wish the weather next week is showing 70s. Are you boating?
My windsheild is 2 pcs, the tint installer said it was the biggest windshield they have ever done. The cost was around $1800.
