My new shower sump pump's manual says to use one of two positive wires to connect it to power. One is for auto operation the other for non auto. It does not say what to do with the extra wire that is stripped back about 1/4". Should this wire be sealed from water or just cut off?

Run it to a place in the bilge outside of the sump box and terminate the wire with clean cut then dip the end in liquid electrical tape. Corrosion will "run" up a cut wire, so the idea is to get the end away from the moisture source and leave it as long as possible to avoid future corrosion problems. I would also label the wire so you can identify it in the future.

10/4 and thank you.

Personally I would extend all 3 wires to a dry location and make the connections there.
you may want to use the auto function someday
