we do love love our 2000 340 but I am thinking about moving up to a new year in a 380 or 400. I like the hard top models of 2007 and later. We were at the FLL Boat show this past weekend. Not impressed with any of the new cruisers. Tthey are not 'lake friendly' like the 2000 sundancers, the layouts in the cabin seem boxy to us. Hard to bea our layout, in our opnion.

Kids our grown so typically my wife and I. I have 800 hrs on the 340 but they are easy hrs since we putt along mostly at no wake speed here on the lake. The question I always have it is worth the spend of extra$?

I think the question is do you need the room? The early 2000 models of 370-400 are good boats and the extra beam just makes them feel so much bigger. We had a 2000 340 on a lake with family of four and it was perfect for the lake. If you overnight on it a lot then I could see moving up.

I think it's worth it, from a standpoint of beam (as mentioned above) and privacy. The larger boats get you a solid door to the forward stateroom, which is nice. Your 340 is 11.5' beam - the 2007 38 is a foot wider and the 40 is 1'7" wider. That's a LOT of extra interior (and cockpit) cubic feet to roam around in.

Oh, and you'll appreciate the separate shower and the vacuuflush that stays dry.

I think you probably answered your own question: just the two of you. The 340 is ample IMHO for two. But there again if you want something newer..........

We just moved up from a 2006 320 to a 1998 450. Granted, the two of us are joined by two young boys and a dog, we love the extra space. After spending every single weekend on our boat from Easter weekend until mid-October, it is much more livable with the extra room.

Your 340 is longer and beamier that the OP's. 2000 340 is a completely different boat - it's much more akin to a 320DA or the older 330DA dimensionally.

Dj, the 450 is a beast! Isn't it 50' and 16' beam?

I would not move up from my 340 to a 380 or 400, but if I had thye money I might move up to a 46 or 48 DA... Now if you move up a Sedan Bridge, then a 40 would be a good move for room... IMHO the 340 is a perfect size for most boating...

To add to my previous post. We went from 2000 340 to a 480SD. Now I love the room when it is my wife and I and we can carry a bunch of friends for slow cocktail cruises. The best is doing a week on the boat is extremely comfortable. If kids join us or guests then we have plenty of room and the salon allows an escape from sleeping areas

Live and learn, I know ours is great size for two:)

We moved from a Formula 34PC to a 410DA and still can't believe that we were able to "get by" in the 34-footer. The space, ride and overall cruisability just can't be beat by the larger boat. A nearly 14' beam makes a world of difference.

Hey Jim,

I hope you are doing well!

I really enjoyed our 2005 340 (12' beam), but can't believe the difference that the 410 brought - 14' beam, full size 'fridge, a real shower, stateroom pocket doors, engine room access, etc. I took 13 dock mates on a 1 1/2 hour cruise to a restaurant, and everyone was comfortable in the cockpit.

Not sure but I don't think Diesel Fuel is readily available on Lake Allatoona so your options are somewhat limited.

That would be a deal breaker, but if it is available.... I had a 300 Weekender and thought my natural progression was to a 400, but once I started really doing my homework I found the 450. It is just me & the Admiral 98% of the time and I wouldn't trade it down for the world.... We are 51' overall, with a 14' beam, two heads with showers (hers&his) and two staterooms.
