Hi all

Not sure if anyone else has the same problem on their boats (of all sizes)

But I've worked out on my boat that the swim platform isn't aligned on the stbd side and slightly hangs out to the sides bit. This is catching a bit of the wake from the side and is sending spray up into the rear cockpit area.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix? There's also a small gap between the rub rail on the transom and the platform which is where the water is coming up through after it hits the overhang.

Looking at the swim platform bolts, I don't think there's much play in it so I'm stumped

Any advice is appreciated thanks!

I would think that would be a Sea Ray thing... with a boat practically new and your size. You wont be able to simply slide it over.

Not sure about Sea Ray service down under though.

Is it a replacement swim platform? My 2010 540 does not do that...

Do you have a dinghy or jetski on the platform that might be changing the normal position of the platform?

The service guys in au for sea ray are absolutely hopeless. There's no actual dealer for warranty. They just get the dealers to sub contract out and he process is painfully slow. I'm still waiting 3 months for a leak in the hard top to be fixed as well as a long list of other things.

It's a factory fitted swim platform with nothing on it.

I'm hoping it's as simple as an adjustment! Had a look underneath but can only see big through bolts. Just hoping it's an easy adjust that someone else had gone through

I've been on lots of SR520's, 540's, 580's, etc and many seem to have that spray where the swim platform 'catches' the passing water. Most that I've looked at are not perfectly aligned so its more prevalent to one side but I've seen it occur on both simultaneously.

I don't believe there is any "self" adjustment on these platforms. The platform should be even with the small deck area it touches and the continuing rub rail should match smoothly on both side. No vertical nor horizontal shifts. Like Jason, mine doesn't either. this may be one of two things

a) if the platform is sticking out to one side, it is possibly a manufacture defect that is was bolted on to the hydraulic arms just off center.
b) and this may be a stupid question, so please take no offense. You do have the boat trimmed properly? The 540DA like tab (even the Pods) where the bow waves starts almost at the windshield. If you are riding bow up this may create you problem.

Rich

That's interest thanks guys everyone.

I think I'll have to document the hell out of it and send it to searay and see what happens.

Hey Rich, yes it's all trimmed properly. Doesn't matter which way the wind or current is going. Trim up or down (worse if it's not trimmed). The stbd side catches water and throws it up on to the rear sunpad area and a bit into the cockpit seat.

Also just re reading your reply, the platform doesn't touch the deck at all, there's at least a half an inch gap between the transom deck and the platform itself. And where the water is catching, there is about a full inch between both rub rails. (Platform is fully raised)

Ok you have a installation issue. There is no way your platform should be that off. the platform should have two small squares of rubber like material on each corner facing the transom deck. these touch the transom when the lift is in full up, and prevent the gel coat on the deck and the platform from rubbing each other. I can tell you that my lift may touch one side first when coming up, but it always self "squares" and sit perfectly. This happens mostly when my tender is on and the weight of the 40hp outboard slows down that side on the final inch or so.

either way, if you can get under the lift and look where it is mounted to the arms, and measure the arms front to back and side to side I bet they won't be even. I wish you luck

Rich

Ah ha! I don't have those squares! I just have a gap. Any chance you can post a pic for me? That might solve the problem! Thanks Rich!

I just saw this. I'm rarely on line on the weekends and I just pulled the boat and winterized Sunday. It may be wrapped before I get back to the marina Saturday. If not I will take pictures, and if it is covered I will try anyway pm me with your email

Rich

I don't have those squares either and my platform sits about an inch from the transom deck. I know because my 50amp power cable sits in the space perfectly...

Oh really? That's really bizarre.. Do you think having full fuel and water tanks could make a difference? Mine are always full. Literally can't think of anything else. I'll try take some pics

I have two friends with this problem, one of them had an L shape piece of plastic fabricated to fit between the platform and the lift. It does keep it from spraying up. The boats are 55 and 58 but I think it is the same boat from what they were saying. I don't know much about the different models/years.

I took an 1 1/2 wrench underneath to adjust the platform and it did not help...It is a "gremlin" on some boats not related to trim, weight, or driver near as I can tell.

So bizarre that it happens on random boats that are even the same model and design! It's got me stumped. Thanks for the insight though. Was the adjustment you made for height or did it close up the gap between the transom and platform?

If you guys share pictures of this, please keep me posted as well. I am aware of all your inputs and have seen each scenario while running. I would like to offer my opinion before adding or drilling into the boat.

It tried to do both lift and close the gap as I tightened. There was very little to be gained and it did not stop the problem. It was a ready bolt with nuts on either side of a bracket as I recall. I would not waste time trying it. I did it when the water was over 80 degrees in our lake by swimming underneath the lift.

Hopefully this photo works. Can't seem to be able to load video

I see on your picture the water is forced up on the outer edge....The 58 & 55 I am talking about the water is doing just that however it is 18 inches inboard.

That's interesting, I can see the edge of the platform catching and kicking up spray, but 18" in, I would be looking at something on the transom in that area, maybe a trim tab or bracket holding the platform? Looks like you might need to take a ride on the swim platform.
