I am considering moving my boat to the bay for a few months(May, June, July) next summer for some extended cruising trips. Looking for recommendations for marinas in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area to use as our base. We will be 5-6 hours away from the boat so would like a well protected secure marina. I have 2 girls, 8 and 3 so amenities are a plus.

Try Marina Shores in VB. it just inside Lynnhaven Inlet. Restarting (surf rider) and pool on premise, near other good restaurants and all the action.

If you want to come up further to the Southern area of the Bay we are in along with others at Norview Marina as well as some at Dozier's which is on Broad Creek in Deltaville. There are others from NC & SC boats here as well that make the trip up on long weekends to cruise the lower Bay areas as well as move up the bay. Cape Charles, Tides Inn, Urbana, Onancock, Tangier as well as further north to Salomon’s, Cambridge, St Michel's, Herrington Harbor South, Annapolis and many other points of interest. Virginia Beach is great and we enjoy going there as well so you can find many areas of the Bay that can occupy you for a couple of years if you try to hit them all. Feel free to contact me for more info if interested as we are on the Great Loop till next May.

Try Tidewater yacht in Portsmouth. The restaurant is open year-round, and they have a floating pool. Marina Shores and Rudee Inlet are good for fishing but not much cruising. I was at Tidewater yacht for 14 years. Can't wait to get back there. Good luck.
