310 Sundancer Thread (2007 & newer)

I had the same Kohler 5kw generator in my previous boat equipped with the factory sound shield and, subjectively speaking, it wasn't as quiet as the "unshielded" one I have now in the 310. The main difference that I attribute the improvement to is the length of post-muffler exhaust hose in the 310. Being that our generator is at the forward bulkhead, there is at least 6-8 linear feet of wet exhaust between the muffler and the hull exit. On the previous boat, this distance was only approx 18 inches. Clearly, the exhaust path is an acoustic conduit and the shorter it is, the more efficient it is...

With the aft-mounted generator, how far is it from muffler to thru-hull fitting?

My LG microwave coffee maker combo craped out on me today, it won't power up. I got to the outlet it's plugged in from the access panel in the cabinet above it. I ran a extension cord to another outlet that I know works and nothing. Has anyone else had a issue with it or removed and replaced it?

Mine still works, less the cracked coffee pot, but I'm interested in getting a black replacement one so keep posting if you find something. Most manufacturers have the silver, white, and black versions. I think you just need to grab the current dimensions, either by measuring or from the owners manual online and search for similar size replacements. I think these are obviously a bit wider then most, but I could see putting a spacer, spice holder, or make something to create tiny shelves for towels, etc., especially if they had slanted angles.

anyone with kohler generator and 6.2 v drive ever install a sound shield? just a thought ... I would like to quiet the gen but not for a grand ....
wondering if it could be done easily.. I have never seen one stock or otherwise.

There are different mufflers (Centek) that I've heard about - just google "how to quiet a Kohler 5Ecd generator"

Not our model, but perhaps you could grab the owners manual off the sea ray site (they are ALL available, including stereo, tabs, etc.) and see about fixing your existing one...worth a shot.

Yes, I installed the Kohler sound shield. Made a big difference. Not cheap but the noise was intolerable .

Anyone resealed one of the skylight windows yet... I assume that is whats causing my leak above the sink in the galley.

Tips/tricks?

I have resealed one (starboard), and the port one is now leaking...will be doing it next week.

I used a razor knife and plastic putty knife to remove all existing sealant (use the razor carefully only to remove sealant from window edge). The plastic putty knife won't harm the gelcoat and allows you to dig the failed sealant out. Total time to remove was a couple hours. Resealed in about 15 minutes.

I could not determine the attachment mechanism for the glass itself once the sealant was completely removed. It appears to just a layer of adhesive (not sealant) around the edges (ie there is no inner frame similar to a portlight that compresses a seal). Thus when the caulking in the surrounding fiberglass trough contracts/fails, water easily enters horizontally through this area. I refilled the trough to be level w/ the glass top and smoothed to surrounding fiberglass.

Hope this helps...

James, also check the Screws holding the Windshield Bracket. Pull the Black gaskets out and you probably have some silicon failures on the Screw Heads

Was doing some waterline maintenance this weekend and polished up my exhaust scuppers, accidentally scratched my port motor scupper, want to order a new one - what size is the thru hull ? 2"?

Well the microwave is toast and the parts are no longer available. If anyone needs parts for their LG Micro Coffee combo let me know. I have every thing for it.

I have a feeling you might be surprised how much the coffee carafe will bring in at auction...lots have broken them and can't find replacements.

and sadly it will just crack as well. Replacing the carafe is a waste of money. Buy a new microwave and forget about it. Bring a Keurig to the boat and you'll be much happier.

Just that I would share that I finally have my trim sensors working. I installed a Vessel View 7 last year, and the trim gauges on the dash never responded, so I figured the sensors were bad, and I replaced them during winter maintenance. Sadly my marina couldn't get them to work with either the gauges or the VV7. Their explanation was the sensors were not compatible with the digital VV7.

Ok, sounds reasonable, until I pulled my gauges and realized they were all digital (or CAN) so the same sensors that were replaced should be okay to work with at least the dash gauges, even if the VV7 couldn't use the data. I thought it could as it seems logic that the smart gauges and VV7 share the same system network and standards.

Long story short, I just switched the wires on the rear engine harness from the analog connections to the digital connections. No need to get the newer digital trim sensors, these work just fine. It's really hard to get the initial adjustment, but just use the trailer switch to see if you get any movement...low and behold, it moves, and just needs to be adjusted and "recorded" for the full down, max trim, and trailer readings.

Another user confirmed that the Bennett trim tab kits also work with the VV7, so I'll do that this weekend and finally have readings on the trim and the tabs. I've gotten so used to not having it, but it's a small victory just to see those darn these work.

Hi there, just wondering if anyone has any experience with this boat and twin 5.0liters bravo3 drives

Hi Guys,

just wanted to post an update. I'm now boat-less. :( We are moving from UAE to London in about a week - and maybe next year to San Francisco. I tried getting transport quotes but getting a boat out of the UAE is twice as expensive as getting it here. So I sadly had to sell my work of wonder (2008 SR 310 Axius)

But I agreed with the wife - that anything I could negotiate off our new house in the UK would be added to the boat pot *G* - so we wont be boat-less for long :)

So I'll pass by CSR from time to time - but for now (and past 3 months) we have been busy clearing out everything in the UAE and now we are ready to move.

So thanks to you all for all the help ! Thanks for the great discussions - and thanks for occasionally accepting one of my answers to your questions :)

Looking forward to talking to you all soon again.

Be safe out there....

/kaz

Good luck on your move back to Blighty! Keep us posted on your new boat when you get her. Thanks for all the advice you have posted in the past, your input on our genny issues was a big help and it's running at last!

What was the installation like? Does it simply fit over the generator, or did you have to run hoses & wires through it?

How much was it?

I have the same questions as well as
where can you get it?
do you have v drives (generator towards transom)
Thanks

The shield fits over the genny but there are openings for the exhaust, power, etc. The control panel mounts on the outside. Cost was around $1900 installed by the local Kohler rep. I have stern drives. The genny sits in front of the engines.
