Before I took delivery on may 25th there were several hull voids which needed to be repaired and we're done well. Now I always had a little water in the bilge which was normal on my previous 2 sundancer. This past Wednesday night went to go out for dinner with my wife by boat and there was a wet floor in the cabin. Shower sump box was dry but the tray it sat in was full of water. Called my dealer and they spent the next 2 days chasing the water leak while still in my slip. Today they pulled the boat out to find one of the bolts that secures the galley to the hull went all the way through the hull. Now the gel coat around the hole is separating from the fiberglass for about 1 foot around the hole.
Waiting to hear back from SeaRay tomorrow. Dealer doesn't want to tear the boat apart to find further damage from 2 months of water intrusion and wants SeaRay to do it at the factory. They are also worried about further hull issues.
I'm worried about future issues and not to mention the loss of the rest of the season. Any options on what SeaRay should do?

Wow... the only thing that might be considered is to let the dealer do a temporary fix to get through the season. Then of course, let Sea Ray tear into over layup.

Only other option... GET ME A DIFFERENT NEW SEA RAY!

Sorry about your bad luck.

I agree with Jim. Get it back on the water now and let the SR plant tear the boat apart over the winter.

Or have them provide you with a boat that was made properly. Now.

If there is serious hull damage make SeaRay replace the boat. I can speak from experience the issues will snowball and you'll always have to deal with them.

SeaRay is known to stand behind their boats and correct factory defects. If your dealer is concerned you should be very concerned.

Also, I would personally reach out to SR so they aren't just hearing from your dealer.

I'm in a similar business, I'm the gsm of a Mercedes dealership. I want to give the dealer a chance to do the right thing with the manufacturer before I get involved. Nothing bothers a dealer more than when a client doesn't give the dealer a opportunity to handle it with the manufacturer 1st.

Are there such things as "lemon laws" for boats? This sounds like a classic case for it. I agree, you will be plagued with this until you sell it, and you can bet this will effect the sale of it.

I like the recommendation of a temp fix to get you back on the water for the season, then ship the boat back to the factory - and have them put a new hull in it for you. They can transfer the engine, and alot of the parts/peices - but you'd essentially get a new boat. You might even save on offseason storage costs!

Sea Ray has a rep coming tomorrow to look at the boat. They called me from Brunswick this morning to let me know that they will handle everything and not the dealer. We'll see what they say after they get here tomorrow. So far they are putting their best foot forward.

Sending good juju that there's a solution that saves your season AND avoids long term headaches!

Keep us posted, will you please? And it might not hurt your case to let them know that there are hundreds of Sea Ray owners watching this thread on CSR.

There's nothing like having the dirty laundry aired in public with lots of people waiting to see how the problems are fixed.

"They" know. I saw this last night when it was posted and reached out to customer service, the plant engineer and quality. I also PM'd InDeep this morning here on CSR. Our guys went into action this morning resulting in the updated post that InDeep made. -- Matt

Big Thumbs Up!!!!!!!

That's awesome that this kind of post gets SR's corporate attention; well done Matt

It doesn't require a post here or anywhere else for that matter to get Sea Ray to do the right thing.

Unfortunately, where the op is located, dealers are stressed during the boating season and are reluctant to take on a major warranty repair that ties up their personnel thus preventing doing service work required by their regular customers. Such dealers tend to quickly point the finger at Sea Ray and expect them to do the work, when it is really the dealer's responsibility to do warranty repairs under Sea Ray's supervision then bill Sea Ray for the work.

Comments like: "I'd be pushing for a new boat. The hull has been compromised by the factory", "make SeaRay replace the boat", "ship the boat back to the factory - and have them put a new hull in it for you. They can transfer the engine, and alot of the parts/pieces", serve no useful purpose. Give Sea Ray a chance and leave the aggressive threatening rhetoric out of the discussion and you will be happy with the outcome. From the way the original poster described the problem, this is not a technically difficult repair that the dealer should be able to handle if he has a good fiberglass tech and enough capacity to handle it, but apparently he doesn't. If the guys from Sea Ray do the repair, it will be quick and the hull will be stronger that is was when it was new.

As a guy that has had a miserable experience with a MB, I fully can relate. So far on the MB new engine, new suspension and 2.5 months without a car based on the repeat visits. Had to push hard to get an extended warranty. Sorry had to vent because I hate the vehicle at this point.

Sea Ray makes things right and usually more than right. If your boat goes back to the factory expect them to add a few extra touches. You will end up happy. It will take a few visits to get things right.

Sorry to hear about you Mb experience. That is not usual from my 26 years of Mercedes experience. But just like Sea Ray every dealer is different in ability and customer care philosophy.
