I just purchased a 2000 310 DA and I love the boat. The windlass motor was not working on the up cycle because a stud had broken off the motor. I've read that this is common. I had the motor repaired and now it works fine. Problem is I can't get it back on the windlass gearbox. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a trick to doing this? Has anyone replaced the Lofrans Progress one with a windlass where the motor is above the deck similar to a Lewmar 700?

I could use some help.

Easier said than done. The installation of the motor is blind and the only access is from the hatch which barly gives you room to get in to install

I just picked up my repaired motor for my windlass today. I'll be doing a similar install this weekend. I had the same concerns when I pulled it so will let you know how it goes.

Try using a mirror and flashlight to see where the slot is. Unlock the clutch with the handle and let some anchor lines out then hold the motor in position while someone cranks it back up.

I know it does not help now, but whenever you take the motor off mark the slot location on the case. Good Luck.

Turning the gypsy does not turn the key slot because the clutch is not engaged. We have tried to align the key slot with the mounting holes on the gear box and then do the same with the key way on the motor. We have gotten the motor on but as soon as we let go to put on one of the 6mm nuts, the motor falls off. There isn't enough room through the hatch to get both hands in there. I'm half tempted to rip the whole thing off and replace it with a windlass hat has the motor on deck.

I looked up your windlass and it seems to be close to what I have which is a project 1000. I'm not certain of your setup but once again it sounds close to mine (motor mounted in the hatch that you can barely get 1 arm and shoulder in). I was able to reinstall my motor by myself this weekend on pretty much the first try. I was able to line up the key without a problem as I was able to turn it to line up the motor. Note the clutch was on a very weak setting. I reached in and turned the key just by eyeballing it. The motor is pretty heavy but I was able to mount it with my right hand and hold it with my left ( I did drop it on the first attempt). I was able to catch the first bolt by hand, which held the motor in place until I could tighten it with an extended allen bit on a screw driver. Really the hardest bolt was the top right bolt which was obscured by the motor. Once again I finger tightened it and finished it off with the bit. I also thought about removing hatch cover for more room to scoot around on my belly but it wasn't necessary. Aside from putting a little person in there I don't think there is a better way

Inhad ad the yard mechanic install the repaired motor. He had to file the key so it would slide into the keyway. He also removed the rear motor cover so he could put a screwdriver on the slotted mounting bolts while he tightened the nuts
