240 Sundeck Thread - Questions and Answers

Just bought a 2004 240 SunDeck tonight. 5.0 engine, great condition, 188hrs and will be kept at Triton Marina on the Elk River of the Chesapeake Bay. This is my 2nd 04 240...never should have sold the first one we had. Made it not quite a year without a boat.

Should have it at the marina by mid next week and will be on the water asap!

Congratulations... I am on my 3rd Sundeck... regretted selling them but ended up liking the new one better... Great boats !!

Hello all, just bought an '04 240 sundeck as well. 106 original hours on it in great shape, rack stored. Seems like a lucky find, is anyone familiar with the stereo? says sirius ready so i'll assume it just needs an antenna and subscription? Also does anyone know where i can get the extra front cushions to make the front a larger sunpad? Thanks for the hlp...

i bet the antennae is already installed. On my 06 I believe it was under the helm and you could see it from the storage compartment. Good luck on the cushions.

I recently bought a 2005 240 Sundeck. We find using the ladder to get on to the swim deck difficult. We think it needs a grab bar. Has anyone installed a grab bar?

My wife and I had the same issue with our 2007 240SunDeck. Very difficult to reach the single grab/tow bar especially in deep water, say above waist high. I installed a 12" grab bar just forward of the ladder hatch. Solved all problems. I attached two pix if they made it.

We have a different boat, similar problem. I added a 9 inch grab handle from Flounder Pounder. The appearance, diameter, ends, look the same as the OEM center rail. It has worked great while climbing the ladder. I have tried to include a picture.

IRISH WAKE , I have a SD 210 with 5.0 MPI, what pitch is your 4 blade prop

I replaced the OEM four blade 19p SS prop with a Hill Marine / Signature 14 1/4 x 17p four blade SS prop. I have noticed some improvement on hole shot, low-speed tracking, pulling/ watersports. I would recommend this prop for this boat / motor setup. However, I have found that the old adage "there's no replacement for displacement" is true. Because I like to slalom ski, and we often have a full boat, I wish I would've opted for the 5.7 EFI motor. Do you have the 5.0 MPI 260 hp or 5.0 EFI 240 hp?

I have 5.0 MPI , and believe its a 260 HP. Got the boat last August and so far it works great ,boat is 2001 and the decal on the engine shows 2007....may have been replaced.

Good looking boat, congrats!!
I can certainly relate to that playing " twister " lol...

Hi,

I am looking at getting a 240 Sundeck and was wondering what the overall length on a trailer is? I know there is some variance depending on trailer, but what are would be considered a range? I am planning a detached garage with a 30' depth but if I need to bump it a little - so if I ever wanted to put the boat in it, I am wondering how deep?

Thanks
Joe

I have mine on a Venture VATB 5920 trailer, which is one of the "shortest" aluminum trailers for the 240SD and the overall length of boat and trailer with outdrive raised is just under 31 feet.

Mine is on a roadster aluminum. It sits at 32' prop to hitch. Also important for a garage is the just over 8' height of the windshield.

Thanks for the length info! I am not worried about height as the garage is mainly for my Jeep CJ on 38" tires and will have a lift. I am planning on a 10 ft door.

So on another note, I am looking at 2001-2004/5 range in years for this boat - based on what I am seeing in my budget range. Can someone outline any major differences differences? I am looking for the 350 as I have a family of 5 and will be most likely taking others so the extra power will be nice ( and I like bigger engines...) I will be towing and it should not be a problem with my 7.3 diesel Excursion. Are there any options/years to stay away from? I like the two tone seat colors in the 03+ and thought that is when they started, but saw some 02 with it also? As for a wakeboard tower, having two 5 year old boys, I am sure skiing and boarding are in my future. Is there a year that they started adding them as an option? What about hull reinforcement? Any info would be great!

Look for a Bravo3 drive. The B3 is easier to steer in reverse, for docking and such, and has a lot more get up and go for skiing. With us, the family of 5 means at least 8 on board, since each kid brings a friend. More power is better.

Some boats come with the reinforced hull for the tower. Look under the wet bar sink, up high and you can see where it mounts. I don't know what year they started making that a standard feature. I don't have the tower, but have sometimes wished I did.

The one option we enjoy is the filler cushion for the bow. Very nice for folks to lounge on. Other stuff like the second battery and bow table can be eisly added if the one you find doesn't have it. Depending on where you boat, the pump out head is nice (if you use it) After the kids got older, we removed ours for more storage room in the bathroom.

Good luck finding your boat. We have had ours for 6 years, and totally love it.

Great info! Thank you! I was wondering what year started the reinforcement for the tower standard.... guess I will have to research that some.
