My son just bought a 1989 Sea Ray Sedan 305, waters are calm and the tach says the engines are turning 2000 RPM's. Any ideas, thanks.

Sorry, not sure what your asking?

He's traveling from just north of Milwaukee to his slip in Chicago, just trying to see about how long it will take him. He says the waters are calm, slight wind to his back and the engines are turning 2000 RPM's, I hope this helps. Thanks

I believe it would take him less time if the engines were turning 3000 rpm.

Got it,

Your hoping someone with that exact boat will chime in with what speed a 1989 305 sedan with 260 hp engines will go..

Reasonable request...and I don't know?

WAG I think he's traveling at around 10-12kts???

Would that be with one engine or both turning 2000 RPM? Thanks

Air, if he doesn't havea GPS on the boat he can download one to his phone and use it to know his speed. At 2000 rpm's he may not even be fully up on plane. Running like that the boat would be plowing through the water and burning a TON of fuel. Have him step it up to about 3200 rpm's and it will be faster and more economical.

I think that we are being had here.:smt021

By no means are you being had, I appreciate any help I've received from this forum.

It's an old boat that he knew very little about, and he didn't want to push it too much at first....after an hour he stepped it up to 3000 RPM's.

Again, thanks for the replies.

I'll relay your message, he did tell me that he stepped it to 3000 RPM. Thanks

Has the one without wings returned? Alternatively, the op sounds intentionally obtuse.

You may be a knowledgeable person about boat, I am not..... I have not called you names so you might want refrain from calling me names. Then again maybe that makes you feel like a big man, I can guarantee you that you're not.

As for being obtuse, it did take you two posts to get across your question. The term is appropriate in this case. There are less flattering descriptors I could have used. Now those would have been insulting.

If you have been offended I would suggest you might possibly be too thin skinned for Internet forums.

Hopefully I will make it clear what I'm asking in the future, for those who helped, thanks.

Not being familiar with those waters or the distance, I would be more concerned with fuel consumption and availability along the route than time.

As as a rule of thumb, he should try to top off with 1/3 tank in reserve.

I was thinking this was a test and was having flashbacks to high school. If a boat left Milwaukee traveling at 2000 rpm, at three p.m. and another boat left Chicago traveling at 4000 RPM at 8 p.m. How many gumballs are in this bowl?

Purple because alligators don't wear hats!
