310 Sundancer Thread (2007 & newer)

Ok, thanks--I don't recall seeing a sticker at the stern so perhaps the "white glove" update wasn't done after all. I'll look to confirm the software version next time I'm at the boat. Thanks again for the help/insight!

For those that may have Gen I Axius and aren't sure if the "white glove" update was performed, Mercruiser tech support was able to confirm (via email w/ eng serial #) the program was completed on my vessel in 2012. So that's not the cause of my Skyhook problem.

I also verified my VV version appears to confirm kaz911 suggestion that 4.x is required.

anyone else have davits on there 31? weaver or hurley? if you have the weaver do you have the 6" drop style?

Hmm I think your vesselview is too old? It should be 4.0.0.60 - not 4.0.0.20 I think. Please check with Merc again - I don't have my old VV in my boat any longer as I have upgraded to VV7. So I do doubt the Merc tech has done right by the PO.

The bracket that holds the gas strut that opens my anchor locker door came off and i want to re-attach it. Could someone let me know the measurements so i can make sure it is in the correct location? It came off clean so i have no idea where it should be adheared to!

My hatch seal is falling off. It was originally attached with double sided tape which has let go.

Doe anyone have a successful repair story to share?

Thanks kaz911--you are correct.

Through some additional research (online and otherwise), I have confirmed that v4.0.0.60 is Skyhook-enabled while v4.0.0.20 (what I currently have) is not. I may follow up with Mercury as to why their records indicate the update was performed though I don't know that it would buy me much at this point.

Unfortunately, it appears this VV update isn't available for download anywhere (though I think I did see f/w updates for the newer VV4 and VV7). I was hoping to avoid having to use a Merc tech just to insert a USB key...

any make there own davits ie doms davits or something similar for a 310? i was looking at hurley h20 but for 1300 bucks im pretty sure i can make some thing similar for less. the first mate almost lost her lunch when she saw the davits would be more than the dinghy and motor combined! thanks

No old VV's need a Merc Tech on board to upgrade. And they do just plug in a USB stick -but I think they also do a system "update" to enable the "Premier" features of VV and take the boat out to calibrate the compass/heading sensor.

Ok, I'm going to call MMax and or Merc today and see what I can find out re getting the update done by a tech. As always, thanks for the help...I'm also following your VV7 thread w/ great interest as that's probably my next update.

For those who may be searching this thread later:

Sea Ray part # 1971909 is required to "resolve" my issue. This part (kit) includes the warning labels, VV software update, and buzzer needed to enable the dormant Skyhook functionality for 2008/2009 Axius Premier boats that shipped without it enabled. It appears to require a "couple" hours of tech time to install/calibrate.

I've called my local MMax to order/schedule installation.

MMax is quoting 6-8 hours of labor to install the Skyhook "warning system" (buzzer while engaged)...? That's apparently the time required to route a pre-made harness from helm to buzzers somewhere near the transom to alert when the system is in use. Mercury won't release the 4.0.0.60 VV update to the dealer unless they perform the install (ie no self install allowed). I don't mind someone earning a profit but 6-8 hours @ $110/hr to route a wire and flash memory seems excessive to me.

New thinking: can I simply buy a VV4 (presumably w/ skyhook-enabled software already installed) to replace my classic VV and be done with it?

Find someone else than MarineMax - I cannot warn enough times about those crooks.

Yeah, I know. My thoughts exactly. I didn't buy the boat from them but they are the only Sea Ray dealer for my area. I can probably find another Merc-certified dealer but somehow I have to get the 3 Sea Ray harnesses through a dealer...

Do you have the 'skyhook buzzers' installed? If removed/deactivated, does the VV7 + SkyHook still operate? That would confirm there's no safety interconnect between them and I could simply put the $ toward a new VV4 and side-step the entire issue.

The skyhook operates independently of whatever VV you have installed. It is embedded into the "software" in your Axius engine control system.

I have the buzzer installed - but added an off switch :) so when I'm out with family that I know won't be on the swimplatform - I can disable the alarm. If I have guests I can just flick the switch and alarm is back on :) The alarm is just like a truck "i'm in reverse" beep.... But having it on for 5-10 min on skyhook makes you NOT want to use skyhook.

I think I know what you mean...but it seems some dependency does exist between the two as Skyhook won't currently engage in an environment where VV 4.0.0.20 is running and the remedy parts list only includes new VV software and a safety buzzer harness.

Based on this, I think there are two likely possibilities:

(a) the safety buzzer harness satisfies Skyhook by its presence (via terminator resistance or similar simple scheme)
(b) the old VV software isn't providing positioning (or other?) data to Skyhook thus preventing operation

If I can acquire the buzzer harness, I'll be able to eliminate (a) as the root cause. Acquiring new VV s/w from Merc without costly dealer labor (installation of harness) appears to be impossible.

Thanks again for your insight--it certainly helps. There are times I'd like to rip out all of this and just replicate your Simrad glass helm :).

You can install a bigger TV in the cabin...

Wal-mart - http://www.walmart.com/ip/SANUS-Vue...fault&beacon_version=1.0.1&findingMethod=p13n

and a 24" Vizio TV (just showing for reference, I got a new one) http://www.walmart.com/ip/VIZIO-E241I-B1-24-1080p-60Hz-Class-LED-Smart-HDTV-Refurbished/38661990

and it will move out of the way easily to access the cabinet behind it.

I added a blue ray player in the cabinet and next weekend I'll reroute the power cords to inside the breakout box in the space behind the TV. I needed to get an outlet and appropriate wiring items to make it a finished look, but hopefully you get the idea.

Absolutely love it.

Another view, but you see the size is perfect for the space and once you see the mount (sorry, didn't take pics), it's super easy to move around, yet maintain a flush factory like installed appearance.

damn mancaveII i already purchased a insignia 19" to go there because i didnt want to block the cabinet....now your making me think. how far out from the tall cabinet does it stick?

It's flush to the edge and max length of the mount is 7" when fully extended. You have the ability to move it around to give you any appearance you want. I have it flush against the edge of the tall cabinet so you don't see the mount or wires. It's a very clean look. I will try to snap a picture this weekend if the rain stops as I hope to do the outlet install and get the existing wires out of the way.. It's honestly a perfect setup and I can even adjust the TV out towards the cabin if I were cooking something.
