Any NASCAR fans on here ?

Was a Mark Martin fan for years now 48 fills the spot. The admiral is a Newman fan. House divided again as she is a Bears fan and I'm GB all the way.

A visit to Lowes Motor speedway is a fun trip. Do the museum and walk to infield.

Drive to five... still trying.

Petty and Earnhardt have 7... the most. The 48 needs one to tie them.

Got the Subs & Pizza & Wings ordered for tomorrow. :smt001

Try 5th title...not 8th

Sorry Boys, This aint your daddy's NASCAR and you can't count championships the same since the advent of the "Chase". No "Chase" championship will ever be as grueling as what Petty and Earnhardt did and Gordon did as well if you recalculate based on the old point system that P & E plus all the greats achieved under. IMHO, Gordon is on a level with P & E, JJ is just one little step below and will likely make it before he is done.

From a BleacherReport article from 2013 Jeff would be running for his 8th if not for NASCAR's folly, which is chasing (see it really is a "Chase") casual fans for the dollars not having the best win it's championship.

"Instead of having five championships, Jimmie Johnson would only have two. Carl Edwards would currently be a two-time champion, and Jeff Gordon would be heading into 2013 looking for his seventh championship."

Then Jeff would have won 2014.

Hi Mike,

You don't think the teams adjust to the rule changes? Good teams/drivers, are good teams and drivers, no matter what the format!

GO 48!

You don't get to write history "what if..."

Sorry, today's NASCAR is what it is and you can say "but if only" all you want it still doesn't change the number of championship trophies that have been awarded whether Marlboro, Nextel, Sprint or what have you.

The record books will always record what happened during the season regardless of under what format.

Exactly, (that would be Winston though... not Marlboro).

Everyone is running under the same rules. Chase or no chase if you don't like it don't race. Many sports have updated or changed the rules and they still play. If 48 looses tomorrow the sun will still rise on Monday morning.

Besides, what else can I watch until spring while I'm making the pointy sharp things in my shop?

I just feel very differently, the goal in NASCAR is to win or finish as best they can and that is what ALL cars try to do over their competition no matter how points are awarded. All recalculating does is take the same finishing positions and do the points in a different way. For your point about format affecting points, one would need to assume that some teams/drivers finish positions would be different if they if(worse or that they didn't try to finish better) were in the old points system.

Here is my take on the "Chase"; all a team/driver need to do is run less mediocre than the other mediocre drivers to make the first cut, be a middling also ran to make the next cut, get hot to finish and win a "Championship". The old system required EVERY race to matter equally; the "Chase" format values some late season races over others.

MM

Your point works for me if the topic is comparing QB's from different era's, but NASCAR has always been just about winning races.

I completely agree. I wish it was as it was but it aint so we deal with what we have. Complain to NASCAR and see what happens. Best way to change things is to stop watching and stop buying.

We all know that aint going to happen now is it.

I really don't pine for the "old days" but when comparing drivers and championships the old way is the fairest way. I guess someone could make an argument that the vintage races need be recalculated to see who is best by todays standard. LOL

MM

I guess us Winston cup guys will always remember the good old days. Back when Smokey Yunick was caught painting the ports in the intake manifold before porting and polishing was aloud.

Yes Virginia, they cheated back then to.

Comparing eras is almost always impossible.
Would Bob Gibson be as dominating a pitcher if pitching off the new lower mound?
Would baseball or football championships from the past be the same if you took away the wildcard or the division playoff series? At one time, in baseball you had to win either the American or National league championship to advance to the World Series. There was no such thing as a wildcard in baseball or football. I do not hear anyone clamouring that championships in those, or other sports, are not valid, merely because the format that determines championship contenders has changed.
I know that I have an autographed picture of Jimmie Johnson with 6 NASCAR trophies and it looks pretty authentic to me.

Exactly what I'm doing. Like Jim, I live near Charlotte and have never visited the museum. Untill NASCAR stops the manlipulation and lets the drivers drive I'm out. I don't understand how people can get excited when you know the races are rigged.

Not a good weekend for the Bush-less bros.

Kyle Busch was hospitalized following a scary crash late in the Xfinity Series race on Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway.Busch's car shot straight through the grass and slammed into an interior wall. He could not get out of the car and pointed to his right leg. He was on the ground for several minutes.

Busch was strapped to a stretcher with his right leg immobilized. His car hit a portion of the wall that did not appear to be covered in the protective SAFER barrier.
If Busch is seriously injured, he could sit out the Daytona 500 on Sunday. The race could go on without either Busch brother in the race following the suspension of older brother Kurt Busch.

Yeah, that's right, the races are rigged. Give me a break...

Yes, many sports have changed, but a touchdown is still 6 points+. NASCAR hasn't changed much, they still have 43 cars and they race to see who wins. Not much change there. Just how NASCAR accounts for it AFTER THE RACE that decides who the champion is.

MM

I guess it's hard to believe NASCAR could catch whom they need to catch cheating, and look the other way when it siuts them. Or, maybe fly the yellow flag for debris on the track when the wrong team is in front.
Doesn't it make you wonder how Dale jr does so good at a race his father had such a hard time with, and also lost his life to.

I guess I should be careful, might open your eyes to the "show" as the stars call now call races........I meant drivers, yeah.
