Anyone ever charter from them? Thinking of doing it and wondering if people on here have any experience with them. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay. I just found this post. I have rented from them before and had a great time. They were great to deal with. I am planning to rent the Meridian 368 this summer. Trying to get the girlfriend hooked.. Enjoy.

Yes I have several times. Very nice people, would go back there in a heartbeat.

Yeah, they seemed very nice, and I was all set to go until I got their contract in the mail. The contract excluded me as an insured under their coverage. No way I would take on that magnitude of personal liability.

Last summer was the first time in 6 or 7 years that we did not do multiple bare boat charters, either FL, Ches, or Maine. So my experience is about a year and half old. Last time we chartered with C&C was probably 3 years ago.

We did not run into the insurance issue. On all of our charters the charter company had the insurance, we had to post the deductible amount as a deposit.

That said - the charter world for powerboats has just about disappeared in the last couple of years. What I got from charter companies I talked with was that it was largely driven by changes in the insurance - cost sky rocketed.

I am guessing they had to change their approach to deal with cost and risk.

We always knew we would wind up with boat we owned on the coast somewhere. The fact that were starting to have so much trouble just finding a boat was definitely a factor in our last boat purchase. We love coastal cruising way to much to give it up cause we couldn't find a boat to charter.

In some ways I think the charter industry did this to themselves. C & C had the most rigorous check out for captains of any of the charter companies. They did their due diligence before they let someone take the boat for a week.

There were some charter companies that pointed to the boat and said have fun - bring it back full of fuel.

Actually, the C&C folks insisted that I was an insured under their policy and they said the deposit was for the deductible, which was exactly what I had expected the deal to be.

But when I recevied the written contract and I pointed out the contract language to them, they said they were not experts on insurance and contracts, and the language in their contract had been written by others about ten years earlier. They said they would have an admiralty lawyer review the contract over the winter, but any changes would have to be approved by their insurer.

As for the current situation, I can see how easygoing charterers could drive up losses and therefore premiums, but there is such a thing as underwriting and loss control too.
