I need to replace the mattress in the v-berth of our 380 Sundancer. Does anyone have experience using 4'' or 6'' memory foam and cutting your own shape verses buying a replacement factory mattress? We sleep on the boat about 50 nights per season, so comfort and durability is important. Never slept on memory foam so not sure how comfortable it is or what a good thickness is.

Thanks for any feedback.

We bought a 3" king-sized memory foam from Sam's and cut it to fit the V birth with an electric knife. It worked out great. It is super comfortable.

Got my 4" memory foam king size mattress from Walmart.com a number of years ago and cut it to size with an electric knife. It's been great, but is starting to lose its firmness in the normal sleeping spots now. Plan on getting a 6" firmer memory foam this time. It's just not that expensive to replace and relatively easy to cut to shape to NOT update it - a great sleep is worth it!

The mattress came with a cover which I continued to use and just folded the additional material under the mattress. My V-Birth is not a usual triangular shape, so it's not a concern that it's not a true "fitted" cover.

I'll throw in here. We bought the best latex foam mattress that IKEA had. I think it was/is 8". Remember to get latex foam as it will not absorb moisture.

When we got our new to us Egg Harbor one of the first things I changed out was all the mattresses
Ordered the 10" for the master and the 6" for the bunks from Walmart and cut it with the turkey knife, which worked great.
It also came with a cloth cover which I sewed and cut to match the new shape.
It takes a few times to get used to the memory form but all good so far and I saved a ton of money to spend on other things

I did the same thing Carter and have engaged in some activities that would cause a mattress to slide around if it was so inclined to do so. It is still in the same place.

Did you put the foam onto of the v berth cushions or did you remove them and just put the memory foam mattress in? Did you build something to fill the hole were the take goes? Any pictures:grin:
