holding tank smells

I have a similar problem. I have a vacu flush head, and it only stinks in the cockpit when I flush. Any suggestions. If it is a filter problem, do I just get one from west marine, and does one size fit all. I have a 2003 30 DA. Thanks.

Yes. Change your filter. One size fits all.

And if you haven't heard about the idea already, you can refill the filter. Most are just 2" PVC and are filled with just activated charcoal. Cut the filter, remove the old charcoal and reconnect with a pair of PVC threaded fittings. Works GREAT and at around $20 it's heckuva savings.

I have a similiar problem too, vacuflush head, only stinks outside the boat when the head is flushed, I changed the filter, but it still stinks after flushing. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

If the tank was full/overfull when you changed the filter you may have ruined your new filter :smt089 , also have you added the correct chems. to the system???

Tank was pretty much empty when I changed the filter and I pump it out as soon as it hits half full, I had the smell when flushing before changing the filter, and I have it after changing the filter...

I just experienced the same issue as the temperature got warmer, e.f. temps into the low 90's. I solved by adding an extra pillow, (double the dose) of deodorant. I don't recall the product I use but it is a dark blue powder in a bag that disolves. The chemical not natural bacteria. Hope this helps.

West Marine sells their own branded version of OdorLos. The stuff is contains a lot of nitrates, which aerobic bacteria can use to produce their own oxygen. It's quite a bit less expensive and works just as well. Never had an odor problem aboard Just Ducky. And, after nine years, still have not needed to change the charcoal filter.

Best regards,
