I like many others on this forum, I was quite embarrassed about the Sea Ray QUACK QUACK horn, so I found this horn on ebay after searching many options including many good ideas in other posts on this forum.

It is very loud, I did a bench test and it left my ears ringing, its actually a mini air horn.

Mad a bracket out of some scrap aluminium I had lying around and attached that to the old horn cover with some longer screws.

Then installed it back into the original hole.

This horn cost $19.00 and took about 45 minutes to fit including making the bracket.
I installed it in such a way that if water should happen to get near it, the water will drain out.

Now I can join in celebrations with full noise and also blast the horn on those odd occasions and mean it!!!!!

well done!

I tell my guests that in the cockpit by design the horn sounds wimpy but up front at the anchor and forward it will deafen you and blow your hair back

Cool. Put some landscape fabric (weed barrier) underneath the SS cover to help keep water out. Maybe two layers. It's not perfect, but it helps to extend the life of the horn. Given that "marine" horns are made for a harsh environment (and they don't always last that long), we'll see how long this one lasts!

Sky - you're right. The horns sound very wimpy from the helm, but that "electronic sounding noise" is designed to carry further on the water. It always gets me when people say "it's not that loud". They need to stop and think about it for a minute: in a car, the horn is only a few feet and a piece of sheet metal away from us. There's a lot more distance and a lot more "substance" between a boat's horn and us at the helm.

I put a "Bad Boy" air horn that looks just like that on my boat this spring and it's already shot. looking for other options. hopefully you have better luck.

Hello Redneck,

could you please post the details of the installed horn? (even the EBay link if available). I really need to replace mine also and I have not found any alternative marine horn that fits in my 2001 310 SD. Are you still happy with it?

I just disconnected from the switch the horn up front, and installed a double trumpet electric horn on top of the radar arch. I looks great and is loud as hell.
