Official 380 Thread

Belt? Try pouring a few drops of water on the belt with water to see if it stops for a few seconds. If it does you may need some belt dressing or maybe a new belt. Also look beneath your raw water pump to see if it is leaking (water on the ER floor beneath it). Maybe the bearing is going (?)

How long should my starboard batteries last running the fridge, ice maker and head when at a dock or at anchor without power? Left the dock fully charged and spent 4 hours at a visiting dock. Couldn't start starboard motor without using emergency switch. Brand new batteries. Thoughts?

The ice maker is AC only, so that isn't causing your issue. I could go 8 hours on anchor running the refrig and some lights, and still start the engine.

I would look at your amp meter and see how many amps you are drawing.

What he said. The key is how many amp hours and how much draw.
Why just the starboard bank? Our 380 is wired so the house uses all the batteries except the one that starts the generator. With four batteries in play, we run the generator for two or three hours a day. If we are just on the hook, or a mooring with no power, we can usually last better than 12 hours with the fridge, head, and lighting draws. The ice maker, Televission, A/C, stove, coffee pot, Microwave, and our George Forman BBQ, all require shore power or Generator.

I have the same problem. All 4 are brand new batteries (3 months) and starboard is failing. I actually have some battery acid accumulating on the actual battery. Someone suggested the charger may be cooking them, but I have not gotten an opinion from a mechanic who has looked at it. Any recommendations?

I had to replace my charger last season for that exact reason. It was cooking the batteries.
i replaced it with a newer version of the same charger, worked fine after that.

It was a pretty easy installation, but read the directions, they swapped one wire, all the rest were the same.

2001 380 Da. One light in head above sink area out. How do you open or remove to get at bulb? Any idea what kind of bulb?

they have two springs attached to the fixture, they just pull down, the head fixtures are a lot harder to pull out then the cabin fixtures, pull down a cabin fixture so you can see what you're dealing with

The receptacles in the galley are not working. The galley systems breaker on the distribution panel is on, GFI's not tripped. Is there something simple I am missing?

Thanks

check for for a tripped GFI in the head or any other outlet for that matter. I have seen and heard that they can be wired in groups and tripping one takes out a whole group of outlets.

In the head I think the GFI is mounted on the underside of the cabinet with the mirror on it above the sink, if not it's hidden in one ot the bathroom cabinets. I just had the same thing happen a month ago but I can't remember where it is located (old age is setting in). I seem to remember on the starboard side there is one hidden in the storage shelves w/doors in the aft cabin that gets missed too. Happy hunting!!!!!!!!

That IS where it is (under the "medicine cabinet"). But MikeT said the GFCIs are not tripped.

rronds,

I agree that the GFCI's are not tripped that he found so far. LOL I'm still thinking there is one that got missed. I've seen this happen so many times. I guess the mystery will get solved the next time the boat gets used. I've also seen the actual breakers on the panel work intermittently too.

I believe there is one a GFI breaker inside the sliding tambour door behind the outlets.

Psuedomind,

Bingo, that's the one I had trip and it took me a long time to find it. Like I said above, the memory is slowing down. I'd bet this is the mystery GFCI that needs o be reset.

Al

Wow. Didn't know about that one. I'll have to move the potato chips and tostitos to look for it.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't realize there was a GFI behind that door. Will check it out this weekend when back at the boat. I knew of the one in the head and in the cabinet on the starboard side. Are there any others I am missing?

So I'm thinking of purchasing new/different oil filters this year. I understand there's a "tall" version that some folks are using to facilitate "better" filtration. Any info as far as part #s or manufacture would be greatly appreciated. I'm also considering switching over to one of the synthetic blends, any thought?

Thanks
Tim
