It looks like this is the culmination of the Star Spangled 200 celebration in Baltimore. This would seem like a great cruise destination for a CSR gathering. I will start by saying that I am NOT an organizer, but I would be willing to help. It would seem the best person to organize this would be someone who keeps his or her boat in Baltimore.

While I would love to go for the whole thing, I doubt that the Board of Education would approve my kids being out for so long. Not sure why. . .. :huh: It would seem that the best dates to arrange this would be from Friday, 9/12 to Sunday 9/14 as those are the highlight events including:
  • Public & Private Group Tall Ship Tours;
  • Blue Angels Air Shows (yes, plural);
  • Huge Fireworks Show Saturday Night (reminiscent of the Bicentennial Fireworks Show)
  • Special Flag Raising over Ft. McHenry for the 200th Anniversary of the National Anthem.

I would think this would get booked fast, so we may want to look into it while much of the Bay is frozen. My thoughts on what we would want would be:
  • Slips for Friday & Saturday nights;
  • Group Tours of the Tall Ships. The group ship tours are from 9 - 11 am, so that may be a drive to, spend the night Thursday, or get there REALLY early on Friday;
  • Some willing to anchor out off of Ft. McHenry (an anchor boat who gets out early, as well as a few boats to take the rest of the cruisers out for the show. I think it will be a total zoo out there Saturday night.);
  • Group Tour for the Flag Ceremony.

My questions are:
  • Who wants to go?
  • If there is interest, do we have members who are in various Baltimore marinas willing to make contact and get pricing and availability? We may need to use multiple marinas depending upon interest.
  • Who would keep track of who is going?
  • I would be willing to coordinate those who are doing these jobs, but I have a full time business and have enough on my plate.

Sounds like fun. We would be interested in going, like you between business & distance (Pgh) will not be able to participate in organizing. It was pretty crazy affair on the water 2 yrs back during the tall ships/ Blue Angels weekend. We did anchor out Saturday across from the fort, wasn't very crowded.

Did they restrict boating in the area during the event?

There will definitely be restrictions. The FAA requires restrictions for Blue Angels' Show, and, while I didn't see it on the page, I seemed to have gotten the impression that there were going to be barges off Ft. McHenry and that fireworks were being shot from Ft. McHenry and the barges, so that will be further restrictions. Obviously, these are not 24/7 restrictions, but I don't know what others there will be. I would expect the Coast Guard to clarify that in the Notice to Mariners.

There were restrictions from around 11 am till 4 pm each day, if I remember right. The coast guard & harbor master posted them on ther websites, the event also posted a link with maps. It was like there were over 1,000 boats trying to secure a spot to anchor above the bridge also with that many boats the rocking and rolling was outstanding. Everything was worth it, especially watching all those boats leave through the bridge!

Amy & I would be very intrested as we have gone to the Norfolk Tall Ships I believe the call it Opfest or something like that. I'm sure we'd have several boats intrested in comeing up from the lower bay area for this as we always enjoy our time up there. We don't have any connections in the area so we as well would not be able to host or organize the event but would love to come. We did the 4th a coulpe of years ago and it was great trip other than being bloody hot that week so September would probably be a great time to be in the area.

I know of 4 or 5 boaters (CSR members) who are interested in gathering at Baltimore Inner Harbor marina for these festivities. We'll likely post somehting about in the not too distant future.

Sandy’s Beach has made reservations already for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Sept 12,13, and 14) at the Baltimore Marine Center Light House Point location in Canton. We went for this event in 2012 but stayed at the Harbor View marina. I think the Light House Point location will make for a better view of the air show this time. Three nights with a 40 foot minimum slip rental comes out to a little over $400. Several other members of BYC are coming with us, including John and Michelle (XRAVENX). I expect our group to grow, but I would not wait too long to consider reservations. Having done this trip in 2012 I can say is was super, and being able to watch the Angels streak over the skies of Baltimore from your boat without having to deal with traffic made that much better.

We are in, Michele Ann has reservations at Baltimore Marine Center for Fri, Sat, and Sun nights.

FYI......friend of mine is going with another group and they had to split them up, couldn't all stay at the same marina. Bill, you may want to tell the rest of our posse to pull the trigger sooner rather then later (looks like Tom & Robin are going)

I already put it out there John, Tom and Robin are in as well with their reservations made.

Gimme Time made reservations today for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Sept 12,13, and 14) at the Baltimore Marine Center Light House Point location in Canton. Hope to meet others and have a great weekend as we did the Norfolk Harborfest tall ships in 2012. Great show put on and looking for another bigger and better shown. Hopeing others will travel up and or down the bay with us as we will make a 7-10 day trip out of this. Anyone intrested drop me a note or better yet post in the open forum.

We're booked at Henderson's Wharf along with some other CSR folks. I believe we're in for the 12th thru the 14th. Last I heard they still had a few spots available.

Gimme Time made reservations for BMC North Point as recommended and would like to see someone in the area begin to put together a plan of a get together. I am more than willing to help but need someone in the area to lead the program.

"The Cottage" will be at BMC Inner Harbor marina from Thursday through Sunday. We have 6 boats from our yacht club with us. Should be a great time.

We are in at BMC Light House Point. We stayed there in 2012 and had a good time. It is a hike to walk up to the harbor, trust me we did it. It is much better to pay for the water taxi and pick it up in Canton and use it all day long... Looking forward to it!!!

Getting to be time for someone to bring this topic back up. From the previous info it looks like the following boats are planning to be be at BMC Light House Point. Anyone else planning on being there it would be great to know. We will be coming up the bay sometime that week working our way around with a few stops along the way. Would be great to plan a dockside covered dish dinner with a group that might be interested in doing so any night. Since I don't know a lot about the area we are more than willing to help if someone will leed the way. PS. Yes I do not know how to organize the thread as well so anyone whom does would be great to move it to the top or how ever it is done. Anyone intrested in cell number please PM and I will respond so we can communicate directly as well.

John,

I don’t know exactly how many people we are talking about, but I do know for sure at least 3 boats of our crew will be there, most likely more. I am thinking Friday evening would be a good time for a meet and greet dock party or maybe even head out to Canton for some bar hoping. John (Michele Ann) and I both know the area very well so we would be very happy to show you around.We are coming into the marina early Friday morning.

I have not been browsing CSR much lately, but I check in from time to time. I will PM you with my cell.

Bill

I am expecting to get there Friday evening for the event! When I call for slip assignments I was going to give Sandy's Beach and try to get a slip with your group Bill. Looking forward to it!

Time to bump this thread. Our group will be going in on Friday morning and we are planning on setting up a “bring a dish” party on the dock Friday afternoon and maybe hitting some bars in Canton after. Anyone interested, PM me and I will send your our contact information. Tom, why don't you call the marina and ask them to put you on the same pier? We are looking forward to seeing you, it's been awhile.
