I decided to spend the weekend on my 350 this past weekend. I noticed my fresh water was smelling like onion, not sure how that happened although there are huge onion patches growing in the shallow waters around my marina, although not sure how that smell got into my water tanks. Anyways I decided to drain whatever i could from the tanks, so I left the transom shower to run until it was sputtering.

Now my question is, what is the difference between the water inlet in the locker with the shore power plugs vs the inlet on the gunwale. The one in the closet has the 3/4 thread that a garden hose would hook up to and its label water pressure regulator. I hooked my marina hose to it and got some pressure, but whenever i used any faucets with the water pump breaker ON, i would get an annoying beep [about 5secs long] every 15mins or so. At that point, I figured maybe this hookup wasn't filling up the fresh water tank and the alarm is to indicate the water tank is empty, so i decided to fill the hole in the gunwale, completely full till it was spilling out. I still heard the alarm later that day, but less frequent.

Any suggestions on what that alarm is and what the difference between the 'water pressure regulator' hookup vs the hole in the gunwale?

The inlet in the locker is to hook the boat up to dockside water (so you don't need to run water from your tank). Connect the hose here, shut the breaker for your fresh water pump on the panel and when you turn on a faucet you get water from the dock. The other one on the gunwale is where you would place a hose to fill up your fresh water tank.

Thanks for the speedy response, ill try it out this weekend without the pumps running. I had thought for sure when i ran it from the water hose, I got rid of the onion smell. When i filled the tank back up and used it without the water shore hookup the onion smell came back :(

Do you know what that alarm beep is for? Does it do that when the water tank is empty or near empty?

The onion smell is coming from the water in your tank. It likely has micro organisms that have fouled the water. Drain it put a splash of bleach into the tank and fill. Run that through the pump until empty and full again with fresh water. You can get an inline purifier and some water treatment from an RV store to help prevent it from happening again but you still red to turn the tank frequently especially in the hear of the summer .

Not sure what the beep is. Do you have a systems monitor display? Maybe it's sophisticated enough to let you know the tank is dry??

You need to run a couple of tanks of water through to clean out the bad smell. This happens when water sits in your tank.

Once clean, use a water treatment/freshener every time you fill your tank.

I'm sure your hookups in the locker are similar to mine.
I have one dock water inlet. This bypasses your water tank. I also have a spigot that I can use to pull water from my water tank.

Where is your alarm going off? I am not aware of any water tank alarms.

Put some Clorox in the tank (capful or maybe a bit more) and let it slosh around. Then run the tank dry, fill it, do the same and drain. After that maintain by using a thimble-full of clorox in the water each time you top off. No need to spend money on other stuff.

Clorox is still cheaper!

Like that idea!
Maybe someone would actually drink the water then... We just use it for washing and flushing.........
I use a fifth of cheap vodka once a year.

Do you put the Vodka in your tank or just drink it after you get a stomache flu?
