What happened to Scott

Scott, I really feel for you, and it hope the insurance accepts your claim.

I honestly wonder sometimes where we have gone to with computers.

When I was buying my boat, the friend I bought it off that is a Volvo Penta distributor, made the comment, it has a carby, no electronics, it's easy! Well that fitted in with my knowledge, I can fix it.

The same with diesels, I was on the tools pre electronics.

I started a thread a couple of months back about our Marina owner, sailing a Nordhavn back from Mexico to Australia. When they left the US the main engine cut out, Nordhavn fit a pony motor that is totally non electronic so it cannot be affected by lightning strikes. They started that up and ran back to port.

I have had a lot to do with electronic controls over mechanical, and understand the benefits. But really question in the likes of a boat, and particularly if saltwater is involved, what we are actually achieving.

Hey Scott, I had some sensor I was going to post that were hit by lightning but lost them in my computer hard drive meltdown. Sensors were completely fried. They, in turn, fried the ECMs. It still sounds like a harness issue that is confusing the ECMs. ECMs are hardly ever intermittent. Usually they are acted upon to make then act up.

Just my thought but I am watching this as a learning experience. I can tell you that continuity and volt test can lie to you. I use amp load and ohms as a better indicator of harness integrity.

Glad you can get it back home though. PM me with your ending repair if you can.

Calm winds and following seas my friend.

I'm ready to trade my 8.1s on some old school 7.4's.

One of the (many) reasons we sold our 340DA a few years ago. Too many electrical gremlins in those engines than there should be.
Boating is much more pleasurable for us now, as well as less expensive. We do miss the floating condo part of owning a cruiser sometimes.

Scott, Glad to hear you made it home OK. Chasing those electronic gremlins aren't going to be fun but I wish you luck with the task.

Sorry to be a pain, but where is the original message about Scott having trouble? I'm curious, as I too run a 340, so always looking to learn.

Glad to hear you guys made it safely to M/C , now the time to take a deep breath get the boat fixed and not to feel like you are being rush .

Keith
