What should be expected from a full service marina

Not dumb...but funny. Yes they know who I am and that I am a year round customer.

Well I share details about what caused my dilemma and my experienced (or lack of) was questioned. I was just being a bit defensive.

Experience or not, things happen and it appears some were sidetracked from your initial post being about the marina and not how lead to that.

What you did quickly pulling back the throttle is not a wrong thing to do and should not have locked it in forward. With racing offshore powerboats that is done all the time, being constantly in and out of the water. Reversing loads on the cone clutches are far more drastic it the racing situation. It's possible the drive may have overheated on you, be low on lube or have water in it? Curious to hear what the mechanics say happened.

Best of luck with getting back in for the Holiday!

We would not expect to have to go somewhere else for a haul out if we are slipped at their marina or be asked to wait two weeks! That's a good way to lose business if I ever heard of one. If you don't take good care of your customers someone else will. We would be looking for another home for our boat! Good luck!

Madifonzo - first off I don't think you have to convince others of your boating history or experience. If you messed up then you messed up. We've all been there. Secondly, you have a 280DA and not some large bridge boat. I would be pissed that they can't or won't pull your boat. Easily takes 20 minutes or less. Now, if they are swamped with other paying members of your marina and don't have the space that's a different story. I don't think your being enreasonable at all.

I totally agree with both of you. Having been at a MarineMax marina for many years I have always got first class service. A haul out for a boat with an IO can be done with a forklift in minutes, with the most time taken in blocking the boat up on the hard deck. I don’t think you expectations for better service are unreasonable at all. Good luck.

Thanks KC- got new (but used) drive installed and it shifts beautifully. I have the old drive at my Merc shop. We will see what the prognosis. As of now, I should be back on the water for the holiday...provided I didn't botch the install. I feel comfortable that I did everything right but am still paranoid that I missed something. I don't choose to be a DYI'er but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
