Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

I used Petit 1 part gloss epoxy, mainly because it was the only pre-mixed burgundy color I could find. Used their primer for 1st coat and then 2 coats of the burgundy. Came out nice, really cleaned up the deck under the windshield. Don't know about your area, but it may be possible to find a marine shop that can mix the color you want.

Thanks very much for the info...I'll try to get a color chip of it and head out to the marina shop...

Appreciate the response....

faucet upgrades, also I have a question about the steps leading below. Has anyone ever took them apart ? Thinking about putting a hinge on them.. can never have too much storage ..

I had the steps off when I installed the LEDs. I thought about hingeing them like you propose but decided the work vs space gained was not worth it.

You will have to remove the glued down allure flooring to get at the screws.......darn near impossible at this point.

I took pics of the space beneath steps but can't find them. I will post if I find them.

Thanks Dave, also I replaced the impeller today.. I can`t find the post you did on it...would like to know when it was done last...I think the old impeller was in good shape ,

Thanks again Dave....Wow 5 years old and still looked good.. Last year I bought just the impeller , Now I ordered the complete rebuild kit a few weeks ago, came with another impeller. Thinking in a few years may get away with just replacing impeller.

Look like I'm and going to try Mercury Vengeance Pops 21 pitch. I got one off eBay for $250 that looks like new, so I have another one coming for $330 new. Give these a shot to see what the fuel mileage is. Can't complain about the way the Mirage 19 pitch preforms compared to the cheap 21 pitch alum. props were, but just have been wonder about turning this 14.875 diameter props on these small motors and how it effect engine efficiency. My last boat the `19 Vengeance was better on fuel than the 19 Mirage was even that my RPMs were 200 lower all the way though.

I just replaced mine. It has a plastic housing where your cover looks like metal - interesting. Did you take out the entire assembly including the pulley? I only took out the housing and it was a pain to get to the bolts in the back when putting it back together! Next time I may just take the hole thing out, pulley and all, to replace the impeller in a couple years.

Mike , I took just the housing off. I agree , it was a bit hard to line up the bolt holes.. I was able to replace the wear shields on both sides, without taking the whole assembly (pulley, fuel pump) off.. also I used KY jelly as a lubricant for the impeller .

Driller, What type fittings were the connections for the new faucets? Could you attach standard sink fittings the boats fittings. BTW the faucets look GREAT! I want to do this as part of my restoration of the interior.

Standard house fittings.....just replaced all of ours last year. Lowe's had a nice selection and I did not go cheap. Why not have the same quality as in our home? Spent $50 something on the Head Sink and $80 something on the Galley Sink. Wife loves them and they look great. I did make sure our shower connection adapter fit....good to go and they don't drip now, Mike.

Thanks for the input Mike. I'm with you when it comes to quality, no sense in replacing a cheap unit over and over, put in a good one and forget about it for a few years. I really don't like the galley sink faucet as I think a taller goose neck type might serve us better with washing pans etc. These are just a bit farther down the list since I'm right in the middle of manifolds and risers replacement. Found some signs of water intrusion on cylinders 5&7 ( a bit of rust on the interior of the spark plugs), so we'er doing the mainfold thing this year. If I find a good deal on faucets later in the season, I may spring for them. Have a great trouble free season.

Yeah, Cliff, I replaced my faucets several years ago. Hard to believe that you could just buy something off the shelf from a big box store. What were the engineers at Sea Ray thinking when they allowed us to do something that was easy and inexpensive. Maybe they didn't think that we would find out about their off the shelf trick.

I am thinking that I am going to keep my boat for the rest of this year and then sell it next year and buy a 2005 340. I like the interiors on those boats since they got rid of the folds in the edges of the upholstery. My wife hated that look and would not consider buying a boat that had that upholstery. She is not keen on a larger boat, but, that has always been the case until I just go out and buy one and tell her later. Only then does she ask why we didn't do that several years ago.

My 270 is going to sit out most of the summer this year while we do a two month trip of the western parks. Hopefully my wife will be sick of the motorhome after that trip and I will be able to sell it. Anyhow, hope you guys have a great summer.

Good to hear from you again Jerry, Sounds like you are getting some good use out of the motor home. The 340 idea also sounds good except the fact that you won't be a 270 da owner anymore, but at least it's a Sea Ray. Enjoy your western us trip, there is some great country out there. Hope you find a really nice 340 and post some pics for us.

Thanks for the complement ,,,, I bought off the shelf faucets , My boat has 1/2" fittings and threaded together nicely .

The galley faucet is not going to last long... The wife wanted to match with the head ... Really need the tall faucet , as we cook every weekend.

Good luck with the motor work...

Hey drillerb57, Splashed yesterday. The engine ran great, and we had no issues that reared their ugly head, knock on wood. Going for an extended weekend for the Admiral's birthday in a week, so we'll see what turns up, but I'm real happy with performance so far. When I do the galley faucet, I'm getting one that is taller also. I like the idea of being able to wash pots and pans without moving the faucet out of the way.

Any special reason or planning on keeping it off?

Don't know what I'm going to do, Now I can back it into the barn with changing tire's on the rear and using the tractor and three point hitch.
The boat just lost about 200 plus pounds.
